FSUS is located in Southeast Tallahassee, Florida, in the Southwood subdivision. Established in 1857, FSUS is a K-12 Developmental Research/Charter school under the auspices of Florida State University. The school provides research and development opportunities for educators, and serves as a laboratory for teacher education. The 1850 student population demographic reflects that of a typical North Florida school site. FSUS has a rigorous academic curriculum along with award-winning arts and athletics programs.

Responsibilities The holder of this position is supervised by the Principal(s) of FSUS, or by another appropriate administrator of Florida State University. Responsible for planning and conducting classes for FSUS students, for academic advising and related activities, and for assisting with student supervision. Attendance is required at staff conferences and curriculum development activities, with required involvement in action research, creative endeavors and service.

Plan and implement lessons in the subject area assigned. Assess students to evaluate their abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. Work with students to challenge them to improve their abilities, and proactively address academic needs. Closely monitors learning progress and communicate proactively with families.

Participates in professional development and research as required and aligned with the mission of FSUS as a developmental research school.

Qualifications Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science Degree

Certification or a Statement of Eligibility for State of Florida Professional Educator’s Certificate Secondary Art.

Must maintain certification throughout employment.

Preferred ESOL/ELL Compliant

Anticipated Salary Range $43,250-$64,803

FSUS salary scale is approved through collective bargaining and is based on education and experience.

There are 191 actual workdays with 8 hours each day. Some summer work may be required.

Criminal Background Check

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check, to include fingerprinting, with the cost being the responsibility of the successful candidate. Re-certification is required at 5-year intervals (at the employee’s expense).The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
