The Director of Admissions provides strategic leadership and vision to the Office of Admissions to enable the University to attract, recruit and enroll undergraduate students. Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the individual will lead a team of staff members and implement an efficient, proactive, collaborative, team based recruitment function. 

The Director is a highly visible and effective spokesperson for the University and must articulate the benefits and values of the campus community to a variety of constituents. The Director has lead responsibility for developing and implementing the University’s recruitment plan, overseeing its successful execution, and monitoring and assessing the plan to ensure the University meets its stated enrollment goals in support of the strategic plan. The Director of Admissions has principal responsibility for undergraduate recruitment and admission, and enrollment.

Job Duties
Recruitment, Admission and Enrollment Management


Designs and implements a recruitment plan that aligns with the University’s strategic enrollment goals for undergraduates; Assesses and updates enrollment plans as needed to meet short and long-term objectives

Collaborates with financial aid on packaging strategies and scholarship processing for incoming undergraduates

Directs the enrollment process from the point of inquiry through beginning of the semester 

Develops and implements a comprehensive undergraduate student recruitment/admission program consistent with affirmative action guidelines

Develops admission standards, policies and procedures in collaboration with University administrators and academic personnel

Manages timely scholarship awards and initiatives in collaboration with the Director of Financial Aid and the Vice President of Enrollment Management

Serves on the Enrollment Management leadership team

Orientation
Collaborates with the Division of Student Affairs on initiatives to promote successful student transition programs for incoming undergraduates

Staff Development
Supervises, trains, creates professional development plans, and evaluates admission and orientation employees to ensure that employees have, and utilize, up-to-date knowledge of relevant university programs and policies

Evaluates employee performance 

Leads staff meetings, shares information, promotes the development of ideas for improved service and efficiency, and encourages teamwork

Data-Driven Decision-Making
Assesses best practices and rapidly changing technology that will enable the achievement of the University’s enrollment and recruitment goals

Analyzes data and assesses programming activities as part of strategic enrollment planning initiatives, including freshmen, transfer and non-traditional groups

Monitors application flow, the review process, deposits and withdrawal rates throughout the admission cycle; Develops and implements recommendations from analyzing trends

Participates in institutional assessment procedures, especially those related to enrollment and specifically to department operations

Works independently and with others to gather and provide data for planning and assessment;
Gathers and shares statistics and other relevant data on the department’s operations to create the division’s annual report

Department Administration
Participates in professional organizations and professional development activities to learn about contemporary recruitment and orientation practices

Designs and implements recruitment and orientation activities that provide the University with a competitive advantage

Facilitates organizational development and change to create an effective, progressive, efficient and competitive admission and orientation operation

Provides fiscal oversight, management, and budget development for the office

Prepares regular reports to compare progress with like-semesters.  

Anticipates and provides ad-hoc reports as requested

Coordinates special projects as needed

Participates in University meetings and committees as assigned

Other Duties as Assigned 

Salary: Commensurate with experience, plus excellent benefits. Final selection will be based upon a successful interview and background check. All candidates must furnish proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. at the time of employment.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree required with at least five years of progressive leadership experience in university admissions, including recruitment, enrollment planning and program development;


Evidence of outstanding writing and superior spoken communication skills; “Proven” marketing ability transferable to the University, using personal selling and marketing techniques; 


Knowledge of human resource management: supervising staff, hiring, training, evaluation, coaching, policy development, and risk management planning; Capability for managing complex interdepartmental processes, ability to organize logistical and operational challenges; Advanced knowledge of education policy, financial aid, large-scale computer systems and data management, and applicable federal, state and university policies and laws governing admission and recruitment and the release and disclosure of information; Commitment to diversity and sensitivity to the needs of educationally and economically disadvantaged students.


Also required:

  • Eligibility for Pennsylvania driver’s license and U.S. passport
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as required
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally when required

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to drive long distances and stand for long periods of time

Preferred Qualifications:
Direct experience in an admissions office of a non-profit regionally accredited college/university; Hands-on experience coordinating the primary functional areas of admissions such as communications, off-campus recruitment, visitor event management, applicant evaluation; Expertise with undergraduate admission, international and online recruiting; Experience developing, implementing, evaluating and providing ongoing enhancements to student orientation; Experience managing and working in a collective bargaining environment; Sophisticated knowledge of current practices in student recruitment and selection; Familiarity with admission information systems and third party service providers; A high personal energy level, enthusiasm, a sense of humor, personal presence, poise and tact when working under pressure.; And finally, highly effective interpersonal and relationship-development skills.

Preferred qualifications may be used to further reduce the pool of applicants to those who are most highly qualified.
