Assistant Athletic Trainer - Tennis

Regular Full-time, Market Range 07

The Assistant Athletic Trainer will function to assist the Associate Athletic Director of Sports Medicine, and the Associate Director of Sports Medicine/East Athletic Training Room Manager, in providing all aspects of the daily medical care for the Men's and Women's Tennis Programs.  In addition, they will oversee tone (1) Intern/Graduate Assistant athletic trainer assisting with coverage of the Men's and Women's Tennis teams, and all student assistants assigned to work with the Tennis programs.   The Assistant Athletic Trainer will also be responsible for  administrative duties of the Sports Medicine Department as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director of Sports Medicine or the Associate Director of Sports Medicine/East Athletic Training Room Manager.

Job Functions/Responsibilities:

• Manage all aspects of daily medical needs of Men's and Women's Tennis programs, including coverage of strength and conditioning sessions, practices, home and away competitions, and attendance at rehabilitation and treatment sessions and medical appointments of Tennis student-athletes as required.  
• Supervise and mentor one (1) Intern/Grad Assistant athletic trainer for the Men's and Women's Tennis programs.
• Supervise all athletic training student assistants assigned to work with the Tennis programs.
• Communicate directly with coaches for Men's and Women's Tennis regarding all injuries and illnesses of Tennis student-athletes, as well as status of ongoing rehabilitation and treatments, medical appointments, and participation status for workouts/practices/competitions.  
• Communicate directly with Tennis Strength and Conditioning coach regarding all physical restrictions due to injury or illness of Tennis student-athletes.
• Inform Assoc AD of Sports Medicine, Associate Director of Sports Medicine, and Head Team Physician of major medical issues of Tennis student-athletes such as Emergency Department transportation, hospitalizations,  surgeries, and other significant issues. 

 Other administrative duties as assigned by the Director of  Sports Medicine, and/or the Associate Director of Sports Medicine.

 Sports Medicine Dept administrative duties: as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director of Sports Medicine.



Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:

Required Education:

Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or other related field.

CPR/AED certification, NATABOC athletic training certification, eligible for AT license in TN.

Required level/type of experience:

Entry level position.  Undergraduate experiences as part of degree requirements.

Competencies/Quaifications:

Exceptional communication skills and ability to work effectively as a member of the Sports Medicine Team.

Advanced level of athletic training knowledge and skills in evaluation of injuries and illnesses, treatment planning and implementation, rehabilitation program design for major time loss injuries.  

Knowledge of emergency medical planning and procedures.  Advanced skills in first aid and life saving techniques including use of AED's and CPR.

Ability to use electronic medical record keeping for documentation of medical interventions.

Preferred Education:

Master's degree in Athletic Training or other related field.

Preferred level/type of experience:

Graduate assistantship experience with an NCAA FBS program preferred.  Post-graduate Intern experience working as a certified athletic trainer with either NCAA FBS  program or professional sports organization preferred.  Experience working directly with, or participating in, the sport of tennis preferred.

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilties:

Knowledge of advanced recovery and/or injury prevention screening techniques.
