The Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS) at the University of Virginia seeks a postdoctoral associate position. The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Wen You and Dr. Achla Marathe. The candidate will contribute to our efforts to integrate health economics and behavioral economics into dissemination and implementation public health sciences with the goal of pushing forward the frontier of translational sciences to close health disparities.

Duties & Responsibilities: The successful candidate will contribute to our efforts to close health disparity gaps across several chronic diseases including (but not limited to) cancers, diabetes, obesity etc. The candidate will be expected to utilize a wide-range of economic and analytical methods and tools, including principal-agent modeling, agent-based simulation methods, econometric longitudinal analysis and selection models, and behavioral incentive designs, among others. This position offers an exciting opportunity to immerse in implementation and dissemination interdisciplinary research and translational research. The candidate will start with primarily working closely with Dr. Wen You on several projects related to economic program evaluation and cancer center catchment area data analysis. The candidate will have the opportunity and flexibility to lead projects of interests derived from the individual interests related to the PHS and Cancer Center missions. The candidate will be expected to work both independently and in a team setting, and be responsible for writing manuscripts describing their work, advising graduate student and undergraduate students, and presenting at local, national and international conferences and seminars.

Qualifications: Necessary qualifications include a Ph.D. in economics, applied economics, public health, computer science, biostatistics or a related field; knowledge of statistics, econometrics, cancer/obesity/program evaluation; experience in translational science and working with a multidisciplinary team of scientists; excellent written and oral communication skills; a strong work ethic; proficient in one or more data management and analysis software (e.g., R, Python, Stata, Matlab). Desired qualifications include working knowledge of advances in economic program evaluation, experience in data management and econometric analysis, experience with health/cancer research.

Notes: This position is based in UVA Charlottesville, Virginia. The initial appointment is for 1 year, with 1 to 2 years of additional funding available, contingent on performance. The position is available starting from April of 2021, but a start date is negotiable.
