Job Description Summary:

Position Responsibilities

  • Supervise three Assistant Athletic Trainers
  • Is the designated Health Care Administrator for the NCAA
  • Supervise and administer for NCAA Drug testing protocols
  • The liaison between the hospital and Clarkson Athletic Training Department
  • Review medical and insurance forms to determine whether or not each student athlete meets the necessary criteria for participation
  • Recruit, train, supervise and schedule student trainers
  • Oversee administration of Clarkson’s Athletic Insurance policy
  • Establish and maintain NCAA concussion policy annually
  • Procuring and monitoring of athletic supplies and equipment
  • Establish an emergency list for each team with insurance information and medical history of student athletes.
  • Be an active participant in the Liberty League sports medicine meetings
  • Evaluate injured athletes and determine appropriate care and rehabilitation required.
  • Provide appropriate referral assistance for student athletes in need of additional care (ie. Physical Therapists/Emergency medicine/Physicians)
  • Provide appropriate treatments for student athletes in need of rehabilitation
  • Provide appropriate pre and post practice/game care (this will require travel to numerous away venues)
  • Evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that would benefit the ATR and athletes
  • Design and implement EAP in conjunction with EMS and NCAA standards
  • Provide visiting teams with adequate supplies and training room assistance
  • Oversee training rooms to assure proper maintenance, cleaning and supplies
  • Maintain necessary injury reports as well as documentation of treatment and rehabilitation procedures
  • Provide health care information and advise and counsel athletes, parents and coaches on matters pertaining to the physical, psychological and emotional health and well being of the competitive athlete
  • Oversee professional development of the all ATC’s with regards to continuing education units or CEU’s
  • Have ability to move outdoor supplies (water, ice, etc.) to game/practice venues. This includes lifting approx 50lbs.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and Recreation

Minimum Qualifications: :

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters and NATABOC certified
  • Certified to work in the USA and New York State
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid required
  • Ability to relate effectively to student athletes, coaches and other health care professionals, and the University community

Minimum Experience

  • 2-4 years of collegiate athletic training experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to furthering the goals and objectives of both, the University and Athletics Department
  • Ability to successfully communicate with student-athletes and coaching staff * Understanding of the role of the student-athlete in a competitive academic/athletic environment and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate to a variety of constituency groups
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division I and III rules and regulations

  • 5-7 years of collegiate athletic administration experience or similar

Physical Demands:

Mobility sufficient to participate in athletic activities to include but not limited to running, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stopping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Ability to lift and move heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance.
