The UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, founded in 1975, is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center. The Center’s mission is to reduce cancer occurrence and death in North Carolina and the nation through research, treatment, training and outreach.

The UNC Tissue Procurement Facility (TPF) provides a centralized facility for the procurement, processing, storage, analysis and distribution of malignant and non-malignant specimens for use by UNC Lineberger Cancer Center Members and sponsored non-members in basic, population, translational and clinical research studies. The mission of TPF is to support basic cancer research and clinical trials by providing high quality and trustworthy specimens by facilitating novel specimen collection, biobanking, and other biorepository services.

Position Description:

This position assigned to Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Tissue Procurement Facility is responsible for oversight of laboratory samples for their assigned disease group, as well as knowledge of trial-specific requirements, interactions with vendors, sample acquisition, processing and shipping, and maintaining supplies. The Clinical Research Assistant is also responsible for follow up of clinical research subjects who are no longer on treatment, and for administrative support for their assigned disease groups relating to interactions with sponsors.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Working knowledge of and facility with information technology; ability to acquire and apply knowledge from study and review of defined sources; ability to follow instructions; ability to collect, record, and document information; ability to review information for completeness and accuracy; ability to communicate professionally both verbally and in writing. Ability to coordinate work with others and contribute to a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with processing and shipping laboratory samples, experience with data extraction and case report forms, experience with coordinating meetings. Preference for Stem or analytical degree set. Background in Clinical Research/Protocol, knowledge of medical terminology, Oncology Clinical Trial terms specific. Comfortable with viewing Hospital Surgical Settings, patient surgeries.
