General Description:
The primary responsibility of a faculty member in the Virginia Community College System shall be to provide quality instruction for the students. The major emphasis shall be on good teaching by working with students in classrooms, laboratories, individual conferences, and related activities-to help the student develop their interests and abilities to their fullest capacity to become a better person, a better worker, and a better citizen.
Duties and Tasks: The focus of this position is to teach survey classes in the following areas: Introduction to Business, Business Communication, Marketing, Management, and Finance. Additionally, a candidate should be able to teach one of the upper level courses included in the college catalog, preferably Small Business Management, Marketing, and Finance.
Essential Functions:
As a part of this primary responsibility, the College expects each faculty member to:
•Meet assigned classes regularly
•Submit required records and reports routinely
•Teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts
•Conduct requisite student conferences
•Hold required office hours
•Attend to assigned divisional and College duties
•Contribute to the development of the program of instruction
•Adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations
•Maintain current competence in the discipline or field of specialization and advise students.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications:Required KSAs:
•Knowledge of major concepts, theories, and subject matter in the following areas: general business, entrepreneurial concepts and development of business acumen and professionalism. •Ability to use instructional technologies. •Skill to teach courses in introductory business and communication theories within scope of business thought and practice.•Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills.•Ability to relate basic business principles to students•The successful candidate must be willing to teach a combination of day, evening, weekend, and online classes with the ability to be flexible to work at any of the College’s locations. •Ability to develop courses in the field that will expand departmental offerings and that work within traditional and non-traditional formats, such as hybrid and/or distance delivery courses using various instructional media.•Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check is required.Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in Business or Master’s Degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in business coursework or appropriately qualifying coursework. Qualifying degrees and coursework must be awarded by/successfully completed at a regionally accredited institution.•Two years of FT (or FT equivalent) related experience, preferably occupational.•College level teaching experience and/or relevant work experience. •Experience using instructional technologies.Preferred Qualifications:•MBA
•Two years of Industry experience in a managerial position
•Prior experience teaching at the community-college level
•Hybrid and online teaching experience
•Previous experience teaching upper level courses.
