Job Summary

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a FUSE Student Researcher - Biology on the Dahlonega campus. The Research Assistant will conduct analyses on collected box turtle data. This is a short-term, student worker position associated with a project to examine the effects of temperature on box turtle physiology during winter. The student will use computer software to analyze both previously collected metabolic rate data and ultrasound images. The student will also analyze blood samples in a lab setting. The research assistant will join the FUSE program to conduct focused and meaningful research, scholarly and creative activities alongside a faculty researcher from May 31 - July 23, 2021.

  • Develop data analysis methods.
  • Assess ultrasonography images and metabolic rate data.
  • Handle and analyze blood samples.
  • Develop a scientific poster for presentation.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to learn new software programs.
  • Scientific knowledge of ectotherms and box turtles.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Current UNG student not graduating before December 2021
  • Previous course work in Biology (BIOL 1107K, 1108K).
  • Previous experience developing research protocols, working in a laboratory setting, and data handling.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with reading and analyzing scientific literature preferred.
