The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a FUSE Student Researcher - Biology on the Dahlonega campus. Students will be conducting daily care and handling of tadpoles and adult toads by cleaning tanks and feeding with pellets and vegetation. Water data will be collected each week from the tanks (pH, temperature, DO), as well as mortality data from toads/tadpoles (body length, date of death, etc). Student will fill out and maintain a working database in Microsoft Excel, as well as analyze and present data at conferences. The research assistant will join the FUSE program to conduct focused and meaningful research, scholarly and creative activities alongside a faculty researcher from May 31 - July 23, 2021.Responsibilities
- Daily care for tadpoles and adult toads (training included).
- Collecting water data using meters.
- Collecting mortality data on toads/tadpoles.
- Dosing tanks with insecticides.
- Entering data into Excel spreadsheets.
- Analyzing data using statistical modeling.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability and desire to handle animals.
- General knowledge of data collection and analysis.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Current UNG student not graduating before December 2021.
- Completion of BIOL 1107K & BIOL 1108K.
- Handling and holding amphibians (i.e. does not mind picking up, measuring, and caring for dead or live toads).
