Organizational Unit Overview:

Facilities Services is a unit in the Campus Operations Division, which is a part of a broad, diverse division of Administration and Finance that includes all aspects of facilities management at East Carolina University. East Carolina University is the third largest university in the University of North Carolina system with approximately 28,000 full-time students and a staff of approximately 6,000. The university is comprised of 6.2 million square feet of facilities located on 1319 acres with $1.49 billion in physical assets. * This includes the Main, Health Sciences, West Research Campuses, and satellite locations associated with university programs. Facilities Services has an annual budget in excess of $30 million and employs over 400 full-time employees. Major functions include facilities maintenance and housekeeping services. Facilities Services primary purpose is to plan and perform corrective and preventive maintenance functions on all building structures and equipment and utility infrastructure. Corrective maintenance returns equipment to optimal design performance after failure or upon degradation from age, adverse operation conditions, etc. Preventive maintenance minimizes equipment failures and reduces corrective maintenance.

Job Duties :

Duties of this job include but are not limited to: Ensure proper operation of (100 PSI) 500 HP and 1000 HP steam boilers; Ensure boilers maintain constant pressure and flow of steam by adjusting valves, feed, and circulating pumps, and controls; Ensure proper air/fuel regulation by adjusting fans and damper openings; Maintain proper feedwater chemistry through chemical pump regulation; Test boiler feed water and maintain a log of results; Maintain a log of temperatures, pressures, fuel consumption, water flows, and other similar data; Clean and repair boiler and related parts; Maintain fuel dispensing system and steam distribution system; Perform administration of multiple complex activities involving all of the maintenance functions listed above by defining timelines, deadlines, and priorities to ensure the overall outcome of steam production; Ensures safe operation of equipment and employee safety; Daily housekeeping as assigned within the steam plant;
Monitor critical building equipment and infrastructure; Contact and coordinate proper technicians required to respond to failures of lab equipment and/or vivarium conditions that could result in harm or damage to lab experiments and/or animal studies; Relay emergency information to Public Safety.

Minimum Education/Experience:

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Requires certification(s).

License or Certification required by statute or regulation:

May require H-1 license in future pending legislation.

License or Certification required by the Department:

May require H-1 license in future pending legislation.

A valid NC license and satisfactory driving record.
