Assists the campus arborist with the set up and cleanup of daily job site. Assists with rigging of tree parts and safety and security of jobsite. Assist with the removal of campus trees and the disposal of all debris. Operates chain saws, hand saws, pruners to remove trees including removal of branches. Chips branches or load into dump truck. Performs all tree care operations following ANSI Z133. Clean-up work area. Maintain equipment when needed. Perform preventative maintenance on tree equipment. Ensures public safety by safely directing pedestrian and vehicular traffic away from work sites.
Provide Storm Related Clean-up: Clean up tree debris caused by storm related events to include removing campus trees that have fallen or failed.Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions):
High school diploma and 4 years related experience.
Driver’s License required.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Introductory knowledge of tree maintenance, removal and other arboricultural procedures. Knowledge of proper pruning techniques. Knowledge of safe work practices. Knowledge of preventative maintenance techniques and procedures Ability to perform strenuous manual labor. Ability to work individually or in teams as well as with diverse groups. A SC driver’s license is required. Employee must use initiative and be proactive in discharging duties.
