Job Summary:

Eastern Washington University seeks a full time Program Specialist 2 for our Student Financial Services department.

  • Under general direction, this position: coordinates and provides a broad range of financial services, including individual financial advising and counseling to student, parents, faculty, administration and the general public exercising independent judgment in the interpretation of federal, state, local and University policies, procedures, and special programs.
  • Performs specialized fiscal work related to student financial activity; provide student financial counseling in regard to payment alternatives, including federal, state, local, and University financial aid, payment plans and employment opportunities. Coordinate and maintain quarterly financial disbursement, billing payment processing reconciliation and reporting functions.
  • Monitors and contacts Perkins Loan and student account debtors via letter, phone and email for the collection of delinquent account balances and or negotiating reasonable payment arrangements when debtors are unable to pay balances in full.
  • Reviews and prepares accounts for outside collections and or assignment to the U.S. Department of Education and acts as department liaison to outside agencies.
  • Process disability death and bankruptcy claims.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years experience with financial advising and counseling or 7 years experience with financial advising and counseling will substitute for degree
    • Experience and demonstrated ability creating, maintaining and reconciling financial reports.
    • Demonstrated experience with collections: phone calls, letter, payment arrangements and referrals to outside collection agencies.
    • Work experience demonstrating superior interpersonal skills including ability to develop and foster strong working relationships both within and external to the university.
    • Demonstrated competency in computer skills including utilization of MS Office applications.
    • Excellent written and verbal communications
    • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity

    • Working in Higher Education, specifically fiscal work relating to collections.
    • Perkins Loan management.
