The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, (UTK) Human Resources office is seeking a Compensation Manager. The UTK Human Resources Office provides services to more than 5,000 regular faculty and staff, as well as temporary and student employees.  Our office values excellence and inclusion by building relationships with respect, integrity, accountability and care.  Our compensation team seeks to add collaborative team members with sincerity for working alongside our compensation team members while adding value to our campus constituents’ missions. Accountabilities 

Leadership
•    Supervises department staff.
•    Develops and maintains relationships with campus partners to provide high level of customer service; resolves and mitigates customer concerns.
•    Develops and implements department procedures; ensures department operations are compliant with applicable laws, regulations and policies.
•    Performs research of human resources best practices to support new initiatives and analysis of current programs.

Compensation Administration
•    Reviews and classifies positions.
•    Consults with departments on reorganizations and advises on steps necessary to make departmental changes. 
•    Performs audits and evaluates position(s) involved in departmental reorganization. This entails individual meetings with employees and supervisors to collect information regarding the position to ensure correct classification. 
•    Advises management of appropriate compensation for vacant and occupied positions, and ensures internal equity concerns are mitigated.
•    Participates as a member of the system-wide compensation team. Represents the interests of the Knoxville area on the team.

Reporting
•    Produces practical, timely and useful HR reports in line with the needs in the salary planning process.



Qualifications
Required Qualifications 
•    Bachelor’s degree and 4 years progressively responsible professional compensation/classification experience
•    Leadership experience which includes supervisory experience
•    Experience working with a market/merit-based compensation system

Preferred Qualifications 
•    PHR, SPHR, CCP or other related certification
•    Master’s degree
•    Experience in a human resources office in higher education

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 
•    Knowledge of HR practices
•    Advanced knowledge of the position classification process 
•    Knowledge of applicable federal, state laws and institutional policies, such as FLSA and labor laws
•    Knowledge of market/merit compensation practices
•    Strong oral and written interpersonal and communication skills
•    Organizational skills
•    Demonstrated creative thinking, quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
•    Advanced ability to develop and maintain business partner skills with internal and external constituents
•    Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects during ongoing compensation cycles
•    Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and lead a team
