Research Project Manager-Pediatrics Medical Genetics

  • Develop and review Standard Operating Procedures among the labs supported by the Chen Center
  • Oversee collaborations with outside partners (studies that may only require a reg coordinator and not CRC for consenting, etc.)
  • Examples – Epivax, Perkin Elmer - Metabolomics
  • Act in leadership role and as an advocate for the Chen Center (support Center for LSD/rare disease research at Duke)
  • Participate in project development and planning of research projects to advance research along translational paths
  • Implement translational research mission in moving from pre-clinical to clinical trials (single site to multi-center) using project management processes
  • Develop and oversee implementation plans for laboratory characterization and testing of novel therapeutics
  • Organize laboratory bench research and clinical information into bedside/treatment approaches by designing studies and submissions for regulatory review
  • Design studies and regulatory submissions for future research projects to support mission of Division and Chen Center
  • Bench to Bedside liaison (Kishnani / Sun Lab)
  • Oversee GSD III dog research (industry and Duke experiments)

  • Be aware of GSD III gene therapy bench work and next steps
  • Oversee budgets and direct projects (develop ideas and collaborate with faculty and PI for planning projects) for GSD animal models housed in Duke Vivarium
  • Direct and collaborate with other faculty to plan animal studies leading to additional pre-clinical and clinical work
  • Work with collaborators from outside universities to breed and secure animal models
  • Grant support – reviewing grants, making suggestions for human subject's aspects, science aspects – both inside the group and with other collaborations
  • Review and edit study budgets, etc. for new projects, new faculty
  • Facilitate communication between collaborators at Duke, biotech companies and research sponsors/universities/industry representatives for research collaborations via weekly meetings, presentations, teleconferences, and written/online communication to promote research partnerships

Minimum Qualifications
Education

Bachelors degree in the biological or health sciences.

Experience
Minimum of four years of experience working in research laboratories. Must have a minimum of two years of experience performing work specific to the position. A Master's degree in biological or health sciences may substitute for two years of required experience. A PhD biological or health sciences may substitute for five years of required experience.

Duke University was created in 1924 by James Buchanan Duke as a memorial to his father, Washington Duke. The Dukes, a Durham family that built a worldwide financial empire in the manufacture of tobacco products and developed electricity production in the Carolinas, long had been interested in Trinity College. Trinity traced its roots to 1838 in nearby Randolph County when local Methodist and Quaker communities opened Union Institute. The school, then named Trinity College, moved to Durham in 1892, where Benjamin Newton Duke served as a primary benefactor and link with the Duke family until his death in 1929. In December 1924, the provisions of indenture by Benjamin’s brother, James B. Duke, created the family philanthropic foundation, The Duke Endowment, which provided for the expansion of Trinity College into Duke University.Duke Campus

As a result of the Duke gift, Trinity underwent both physical and academic expansion. The original Durham campus became known as East Campus when it was rebuilt in stately Georgian architecture. West Campus, Gothic in style and dominated by the soaring 210-foot tower of Duke Chapel, opened in 1930. East Campus served as home of the Woman's College of Duke University until 1972, when the men's and women's undergraduate colleges merged. Both men and women undergraduates now enroll in either the Trinity College of Arts & Sciences or the Pratt School of Engineering. In 1995, East Campus became the home for all first-year students.

Duke maintains a historic affiliation with the United Methodist Church.
