The Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences at Loyola University Chicago (LUC) invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track position in the Writing Program with a specialty in writing center administration. We are a congenial, collaborative program, housed on Loyola’s beautiful lakeside campus. Initial appointments are renewable, contingent on performance and review. This search is part of a University-wide, multiyear hiring initiative designed to hire outstanding teachers who are reflective of our diverse student body. Of special interest are candidates who can further the University’s efforts to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Full-time faculty in the Writing Program teach four courses per semester in Writing and Core Literature. Course assignments are based on the needs of the Department of English and the Writing Program but usually involve first year writing, advanced writing, and introductory literature courses. Faculty also engage in service at the program and department levels.Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a PhD or terminal degree in English or a closely related field by May 2021, with five years’ demonstrated excellence teaching first-year writing in addition to training and at least two years’ experience in writing center administration. They must be willing to support the mission of LUC and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic education.
Preferred qualifications include experience designing pedagogical workshops or training sessions for writing center tutors, including workshops that address anti-racist and non-ableist writing center practices; a record of success in curricular development and implementation in undergraduate and graduate writing center pedagogy; and experience in research-based improvement of writing center services.Physical Demands:
