Controlled Substances Program Administrator/Chemical Inventory Specialist Job Number Full/Part Time Schedule Salary 22718595 Full Time 8AM - 5PM $64,400 - $122,000 Position Information Under direction of the Chemical Hygiene Officer/Laboratory Safety Supervisor, the Controlled Substances Program Administrator and Chemical Inventory Specialist will be the program lead for UCR in managing the Controlled Substances and Chemical Inventory Programs covering all departmental research, teaching, and veterinary care at the university. The incumbent is responsible for registering UCR's Schedule I-V departmental research and teaching needs with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), ensuring compliance with DEA regulations for the receipt, use, storage, inventory, security, appropriate distribution and disposal of controlled substances in laboratories, teaching facilities, and veterinary purposes, overseeing regulatory compliance and risk control efforts regarding chemical materials purchasing, storage, location identification, disposal minimization and transportation for UCR. The incumbent will be responsible for managing departments in maintaining their chemical inventory, database, website and the distribution process for the chemical sharing program to ensure compliance with governmental regulations and campus policy. They will conduct or participate in site inspections and assessments for regulatory applicability, and participate in program implementation where needed to achieve compliance. Develops and promulgates policies, practices and procedures in cooperation with high level administrators, committees, and departments such as Procurement, the Research Integrated Safety Committee, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), the Department Chairs, and UC Police Department. The incumbent will independently perform follow up activities, such as documenting, tracking, training, educating, labeling, storing, and purging of controlled materials and substances in support of established corrective action implementation. Please note that the hiring budgeted range is between $61,600 - $91,400 annually. Minimum Requirements Strong analytical and organizational skills to organize, prioritize and manage the successful completion of projects within time and budget constraints.
Thorough written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen and skill to communicate effectively in a diverse environment.
Thorough knowledge and skill in applying and interpreting applicable local, state, and federal regulations and related standards and guidelines.
Strong skill to appropriately use technology and relevant scientific equipment as required.
Thorough knowledge/understanding of specific EH&S field(s) including related laws and regulations; and general knowledge/understanding of all EH&S fields.
Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), online and web-based tracking systems, and other EH&S software (e.g., GPS/GIS systems, chemical inventory management, SDS* management, etc.).
Skilled in collecting, compiling, documenting and analyzing chemical inventory and controlled substances. Skill in working independently and effectively, following through on assignments with minimal direction and a fluctuating workload with a demonstrated ability to collect, compile and extract data, organize, and manipulate data from multiple sources, and identify problems and trends, recommend action to be taken, and implement necessary solutions, policies and procedures.
