Minimum Qualifications:

Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

A master’s degree in a relevant field, or several years of relevant experience, is preferred.

Position Summary:

This position will serve as the communications coordinator of the UGA River Basin Center (estimated 50% time) and the Center for Integrative Conservation Research (estimated 50% time). Both of these units focus on applied research in the areas of environmental conservation and sustainability (with an emphasis on water resources) and draw their membership from across UGA. The coordinator will be responsible for updating and implementing a communications plan for each unit, including a social media plan. The coordinator will also manage public relations and communications for specific externally funded projects as directed. In addition, the coordinator will oversee creation of articles and press releases highlighting the work of affiliate faculty members, and coordinate with other UGA communications professionals at the college and university level. The coordinator may also assist in the development of proposals, in particular “Broader Impacts” sections of NSF proposals. Finally, the coordinator will oversee two to four undergraduate or graduate communications interns who will assist with these various tasks.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

Excellent written and oral communications skills and the ability to develop and implement a communications strategy involving both traditional and social media. Facility with a range of software tools including Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.

Physical Demands:

Physical demands include sitting at a computer for long periods of time, lifting office supplies weighing up to 20 lbs, driving to meetings, and occasional overnight travel for meetings.

Update and implement communications plans for the RBC and CICR, including web content and social media, to effectively communicate about center activities, events, projects, faculty, staff and students. This includes developing the overall communications strategy for each group, soliciting material from affiliates, coordinating with RBC and CICR directors on releases, and creating content that profiles individual projects and personnel.

Percentage of time:



Coordinate events, including the Georgia Water Resources Conference and Third Wednesday seminars at the RBC and the Integrative Conservation Conference, Symposium on Integrative Conservation and other activities of CICR. Conference planning includes coordinating technical and steering committees, convening and running meetings, securing speakers, communicating with vendors and other university staff, creating and distributing promotional materials, upholding timelines for abstract submission and registration, and creating digital platforms for virtual events.

Develop and maintain websites for the River Basin Center and CICR including platforms and events. Keep Wordpress and plugins up to date and functional. Make updates to copy based on changes within organizations. Maintain current lists of publications and other products.
