Duties/Responsibilities:

•Attend Thrive Graduate Mentor training June 28-30.

•Live in-residence at Russell Hall for the duration of the program to provide one-on-one mentoring and advising for participants to encourage personal, social, and academic development.

•Serve as a graduate mentor in a UNIV 1201S course section, assisting with in-classroom activities and management, as well as service-learning site supervision. Course meets M/T/R/F 9:00-11:30am. (Its essential for Graduate Mentors to be in attendance)

•Refer students to on-campus services (such as Exploratory Center, Academic Resource Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, etc.) as needed.

•Assist with staffing and execution of Thrive Participant Housing Move-In (July 9) and Participant Program Orientation (July 10).

•Attend some Beyond Class programming events to interact and engage with Thrive participants, as well as the program Opening and Closing Banquets.

•Respond directly to crisis situations and ensure timely and appropriate reporting of information to professional staff.

•Participate in a weekly Thrive staff meeting.

•Assist in any administrative duties assigned by the program director.

•Occasional responsibilities may include moving program supplies, event setup/breakdown, and driving a University van.

Position Summary:

The primary focus of this graduate mentor position will be providing in-residence mentoring to participants living in Russell Hall and supporting a faculty member in the service-learning course offered in the program. Some evening and weekend work will be necessary during the program.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position:

Completed bachelors degree preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies :

Ability to mentor students
Knowledge of program development and/or event management
Excellent communication skills
