Department Summary:

The BFA program in Communication Design at the College of Visual Arts and Design (CVAD) is guided by a curriculum that emphasizes the development of conceptual thinking as a means to address design problems in a graphic design industry job position. Our students create work that is competitive on a national level, having garnered recognition from Communication Arts Magazine, Print Magazine, Creative Quarterly, Graphis, the Addys, the Society of Publication Designers, the Adobe Design Achievement Awards, and the Art Directors Club. The BFA program in Communication Design graduates up to 60 students per year. The undergraduate curriculum offers both a graphic and user-centered design track that helps students develop marketable skills and deep knowledge for diverse design settings.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a designer with areas of expertise to complement the current strengths of our program. Depending on the candidate’s experience, teaching assignments may include undergraduate courses in foundations of communication design, graphic design, typography, color, motion graphics, communication design studio, prototyping/development, portfolio, cause-based design, and/or special topics. The teaching load is 3/3 per academic year. Faculty will need to plan and administer class outcomes that align with the curricular objectives of the program. Additional service to the school and university may also be required.

Minimum Qualifications:

An MFA, MDES, or its equivalent in Communication Design, Graphic Design or a BFA with five years or more of professional design practice is required .

Preferred Qualifications:

College-level teaching experience is preferred.
