Assistant Professor of Education
Summary of Position
The College of Education (COE) at Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, VA invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Education. The COE is the home to three distinct academic programs that offer a combination of undergraduate and graduate degrees as well as non-degree programs and certificates. The COE seeks an innovative teacher educator who has a terminal degree in Curriculum and Instruction in Science, Mathematics, Special Education, or STEM Education. This is a full time, renewable, non-tenure-track, 10-month faculty position at the rank of assistant professor, working with a diverse undergraduate/graduate student body. In addition, the candidate must have a substantive knowledge base in their area(s) of expertise, demonstration of inclusive education, digital pedagogies, excellent communication skills, enthusiasm and a commitment to lifelong learning. Candidates are required to teach in the online and traditional graduate and undergraduate programs at the University.
Responsibilities for this position:
● Teach courses in the graduate, undergraduate programs as well as non-degree programs and certificates(online and residential)
● Maintain an active research agenda as applied to the development of diverse teachers or online teacher preparation
● Administrative responsibilities to support recruitment, program development, and student retention teacher education program
● Participate on University and College of Education Committees
● Advise and engage in mentoring of students
● Advise students and serve as thesis project chair
● Scholarship and participation in university, community, and professional service
● Other duties assigned by the dean.
Qualifications and skills (required/preferred)
● Candidates will possess a doctorate ( Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in one of the following areas (ABD will be considered):
o Special Education
o Mathematics Education
o Science Education
● Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
● Demonstrated knowledge of CAEP and data driven approaches to teacher education.
● Commitment to inclusive learner-centered education, innovative educational models, and readiness to participate in inter-professional education opportunities with the Mary Baldwin University Faculty and Students.
● Demonstrated evidence of engagement in teaching, research, and service that contributes to building and sustaining equitable, diverse, and inclusive communities.
● Ability to exercise leadership in planning, developing, implementing, evaluating, and customizing educational experiences.
● Scholarship and participation in university, community, and professional service is required.
