Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.:

Experience managing international affairs-focused professional staff within a complex university environment.
Knowledge of international student recruitment and admission procedures and policies in higher education.
Experience and strong understanding of U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) policies and procedures as they relate to the maintenance of university compliance, as well as those of U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and U.S. Department of State (DOS) regarding services to international nonimmigrant students, scholars, faculty, and staff.
A working knowledge of computer applications with knowledge in SEVIS and immigration database software.
Experience as Designated School Official and/or Primary Designated School Official.
Experience with multicultural and diversity needs as they relate to international student and scholar services.
Evidence of strong leadership, strong interpersonal skills, and supervisory skills.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritize and produce deliverables upon request.
Experience with continuous improvement through assessment and technology.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Effective problem-solving skills.
Master’s degree.

Job Description:

The Associate Director for International Student and Scholar Services leads, manages, and supervises a broad spectrum of service areas related to international students and scholars by establishing and maintaining strategic plans that enable comprehensive support for this population’s academic and personal success and integration to the university community. Service areas include student and scholar immigration advising, management of office staff and operations, administration of student support programming, management of immigration-related features of international faculty and staff hiring, and effective liaison with campus entities. The Associate Director serves as the authorized representative to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (Principal Designated School Official), the U.S. Department of Labor, and the U.S. Department of State and directs related reporting in compliance with regulations and standards.

Job Duties:

The position provides direct advising to F-1 visa categories, support services to all visa categories participating in academic programs, and manages post-graduation practical training programs. The Associate Director leads the development and implementation of student visa-related recruitment, admission, and enrollment practices. The position supervises all staff of the International Student and Scholar Services office and ensures that personnel are trained and knowledgeable in institution policies, regulations with respect to immigration advising, compliance practices, safety and emergency procedures, and best practices in international student and scholar support services. The Associate Director designs and implements support services that align with institution policies and establish inclusive and equitable education and work environments. The Associate Director develops data-informed assessment plans and processes that document progress toward achievement of the department’s mission, goals, outcomes, and objectives. The position manages the university’s interface with external database systems to perform required regulatory compliance. The Associate Director manages the financial resources of the department to maintain compliance-related responsibilities, offers support mechanisms to meet constituent needs, and applies sustainable resource management.
