Associate Director, Fraternity & Sorority Life

The Associate Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life serves a vital role in the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL), and is directly responsible for the oversight of programs and services that connect to the FSL mission and core values. The Associate Director is primarily responsible for supporting the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) executive board and its member organizations and the Panhellenic Association (PA) executive board and its primary recruitment process.

Further, the Associate Director provides direct supervision for two graduate assistants in partnership with the Student Affairs and Higher Education program and in summer months will supervise a NASPA NUFP intern. An essential part of the Division of Student Affairs, the Associate Director serves on the Extended Cabinet and has the opportunity for involvement in University and Division committees and initiatives.

Applicants for the Associate Director role should possess the following skills and meet the following criteria:

  • Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, or related field
  • 3+ years professional experience in Fraternity & Sorority Life, Student Activities, Leadership Development, or other Student Affairs related area
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of students, staff members, alumni, and interfraternal partners as an advisor and champion
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication including public presentations
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence
  • Ability to complete multiple complex projects at the same time through visionary leadership
  • Membership in an inter/national social fraternity or sorority is preferred

Specific Duties and Responsibilities for the Associate Director, Fraternity and Sorority Life include:

  • Assist with providing a developmental and supportive atmosphere to the FSL community at Indiana State University, made up of 28 inter/national fraternal organizations and a membership of 1,000+ affiliated undergraduate students
  • Provide strong and visionary leadership, serving as a spokesperson and initiating regular outreach with FSL community members and officers
  • Assist in coordinating workshops, trainings, and retreats for fraternity and sorority leaders, members, and advisors (including the development of any materials or curriculum that may be needed)
  • Serve as the primary advisor for the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) executive board and the programs and initiatives, including, but not limited to, Meet the Greeks, Homecoming Stroll Off, NPHC Week, Black History Month Programs
  • Serve as the main advisor for all NPHC member organizations, communicating regularly and offering support to members, officers, advisors, regional/district support teams, inter/national headquarters or corporate offices, and alumni
  • Serve as the primary advisor for the Panhellenic Association (PA) executive board and the programs and initiatives, including but not limited to primary recruitment and Circle of Sisterhood fundraising
  • Oversee the FSL Awards process including, but not limited to: judge recruitment and training, individual application coordination, organization completion of Standards of Excellence self-assessment each semester, ordering and proofing recognition materials, script writing, coordinating with presenters/VIP guests and space reservations
  • Supervise up to 2 graduate assistants and, as applicable, a NASPA NUFP intern
  • Provide leadership for the implementation of the FSL Relationship Statement, Standards of Excellence, and other applicable office, Division, and University policies and guidelines
  • Participate in various office, Division, and University programs and activities, including some weekend or evening work
  • Attend and participate in regularly scheduled FSL staff meetings and one-on-one supervision meetings
  • Maintain regular office hours
  • Other duties as assigned as they pertain to the function of the office, Division, and University
