The Psychology Department at the University of Arizona is seeking for a qualified Accountant (Administrative Operations Professional I) to join their team. This position will support the business and accounting functions of the department and will performs a broad scope of accounting, payroll, and HR assignments. This position will ensure day-to-day accounting transactions are performed in accordance with departmental and University policies and procedures. Professional demeanor, customer service and team work are required. The successful candidate will be a dynamic, self- starting individual who enjoys working in a team environment and demonstrates strong organizational skills and attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy. The Psychology Department is a large, dynamic, and complex academic unit with strengths in research and teaching as well as service to the community. Duties & Responsibilities:

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Prepares and processes day-to-day business transactions (p-card, purchase order, requisitions, travel expenses and reimbursements, disbursement vouchers, GEC, SETs, operational advances, internal billing, refunds, cash receipts and UA Foundation transactions) with accuracy, thoroughness, and in compliance with University policies and procedures.
  • Utilizes UAccess Systems to review, approve, and monitor account transactions.
  • Monitors and approves financial transactions for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, UA and UAF policies and procedures, and sponsorship rules and regulations.
  • Oversee and performs Payroll and HR Activities such as new hires, job changes, funding account distributions salary expense transfers, payroll compensation requests, and serve as department time coordinator in UAccess Employee.
  • Process Student Financial Aid through the External Awards System for Scholarships, Setaside, fee waiver, and others as needed.
  • Track department capital and non-capital inventories.
  • Researches, analyzes and uses independent judgement in a variety of daily and non-routine decisions affecting assigned function.
  • Cross-trains and serves as back-up for other department Team Staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the department.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Proficiency with university financial, accounting, reporting systems and tools.
  • Excellent communication, time management, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to apply knowledge, think independently, and take indicative to solve problems.
  • Proficient in MS Office and MS Excel.
  • Skill in maintaining and reconciling accounting and financial records.
  • Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping practices and principles.
  • Ability to work within time constraints and deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • At least 1 year of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior University of Arizona accounting experience.
  • Experience with current University of Arizona systems and processes, including UAccess Financials and UAccess Analytics
