Financial Accounting & Reporting Analyst

University Accounting & Financial Reporting

University of Illinois System - Urbana

The University System Office seeks a Financial Accounting & Reporting Analyst to, under administrative direction, prepare financial statements and help respond to related audit inquiries. This position will provide special analysis for management and monitor the integrity of University-wide financial system data, as well as, provide accounting assistance in real property accounting, plant fund administration, and lease accounting.

Additional responsibilities include:

  1. Assist in the preparation of annual financial reports for the Auxiliary Facilities System and the Health Services Facilities System required by University bond indentures.
  2. Assist in the preparation of the annual University-wide financial statements and related supporting schedules. The University-wide financial statements include the statements noted above required by the University bond indentures and eight University Related Organizations.
  3. Assist with preparation and analysis of University-wide data and prepare reports. The reports prepared are used by University and System leadership for various purposes including to gauge the overall financial position of the University System and its individual departments.
  4. Assist with resolution of University-wide financial audit inquiries and issues to ensure the completion of the annual financial audits by the external auditors and the Office of the Auditor General in a timely manner.
  5. Provide analysis and complete reconciliations of transactional data to ensure integrity of University-wide financial data systems. Advise units of inappropriate or inconsistent transactions.
  6. Monitor plant fund activity and assist in the maintenance of real property records in the Banner Fixed Asset module.
  7. Assist UAFR staff and other units in plant fund maintenance - eliminate overdrafts, resolve posting errors, post adjustments, transfer funds, assign proper capitalization designation to projects, and administer plant fund transactions.
  8. Assist with review disbursements from plant funds subsequent to year-end to validate the accuracy of year-end estimated accrual calculations.
  9. Ensure adherence to lease accounting standards through collaborate with departments (system wide) and property accounting staff on analyses and set up of new leases. In addition, work with the various University units to monitor payments and receipts related to lease agreements and to stay informed of lease modifications or terminations.
  10. Perform other related duties including serving on University, System Office, and/or University Accounting and Financial Reporting committees/teams as assigned.

Education and Experience

Required:

  1. Bachelor's degree with a major in Accountancy or a related field AND two (2) years of professional level accounting experience.
OR

Possession of current registration as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant, or a valid license to practice Public Accounting (LPA).OR

Master's degree in Accountancy or a related field.

Preferred:

  1. Two years of experience of financial reporting related duties.
  2. Experience working with fund accounting systems.

Certifications

Preferred:

  1. CPA certification or documented progress towards certification.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Knowledge of reporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  2. Proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Access, Word and Outlook.
  3. Ability to produce complex financial reports and provide detailed information accurately.
  4. Ability to multi-task and produce accurate, detail-oriented work to meet stringent deadlines.
  5. Governmental Accounting Standards Board standards knowledge.
  6. Proficiency in querying and analyzing large databases.

SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
This is a full-time Civil Service Accounting Associate position appointed on a 12 month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after April 28, 2021. Salary is commensurate with experience.
