Position SummaryThe SDSU Imperial Valley Student Affairs unit, working in conjunction with the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity at the San Diego campus, are mutually responsible for the coordination and development of student services and building the inclusive excellence of SDSU's staff and faculty. Areas of services include, but are not limited to, Career Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, Educational Opportunity Programs, Financial Aid and Scholarships, Veterans Services, Student Ability Success Center, Student Health Services, Student Life and Leadership, Student Rights and Responsibilities, Testing Services, and Supporting the Associated Students.Under the supervision and direction of the SDSU IV Dean of Students, the Student Success and Academic Advisor will assist in efforts to support the students at SDSU Imperial Valley. This position will provide advising to enable students understand their collegiate experiences at different levels of awareness via personal growth, co-curricular programs, and advising. This position will be part of the Student Affairs unit at SDSU Imperial Valley and assist with the overall strategic plans and goals for the university, division, and campus.For more information regarding Imperial Valley Campus, click here.This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before 6/30/2022 with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.Education and ExperienceExperience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.Licenses or Certifications RequiredValid CA Driver’s License.Preferred Qualifications Bilingual: English-SpanishExperience using Microsoft Office applications and Google applicationsMinimum of one year of experience advising students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters.Education: Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, higher education, student affairs or job-related field.Experience advising and/or counseling underrepresented, low-income and first-generation college students and working effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.Experience working with college students and parents.Experience conducting presentation in small and large group settings: facilitating workshops using effective public speaking techniques.Experience advising and/or counseling students in academic and/or co-curricular settings.General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as general knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assignedGeneral knowledge of individual advising techniquesWorking knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.Compensation and BenefitsStarting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $4,304 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,304 - $6,120 per month.
