This position is a pooled position and the department is seeking to recruit candidates who are interested in short-term employment during the summer months. Immediate opening might not be available. Position will be filled based upon need of department.
The primary purpose of this position is the maintenance of all types of flooring in residence halls at Western Carolina University. Specific duties will include but not be limited to refinishing VCT, carpet extraction, and scrubbing tile floors. Related tasks include sweeping, mopping, and the operation various pieces of heavy cleaning equipment (extractors, suction machines, wet vacuums, scrubber/buffers, etc.).
Secondarily, Floor Techs may also be asked to perform a variety of duties in the care and cleaning of Residential Living facilities. Duties potentially include physically challenging activities such as moving furniture, operating heavy cleaning equipment, carrying trash, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms, walls, windows and light fixtures, minor maintenance, and other duties as assigned.
This is a physically demanding job that requires constant standing, squatting, bending, walking, pushing/pulling, and the ability to perform repetitive physical tasks for long periods of time. Must be able to lift or team lift 50-75lbs on a regular basis.
This is a temporary position. The job will end in August, no later than the beginning of the Fall 2021 semester. A successful hourly employee will be eligible for rehire, subject to the needs of the department.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position:
Must be capable of following written and verbal instruction, performing medium to heavy physical work, communicating effectively both verbally and in writing, and working effectively with others.Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of training and experience.Preferred Qualifications:
Possession of a valid driver’s license is not a requirement for this position but would prove helpful.
A willingness to learn and work as a part of a team in a fast-paced environment is essential.
Some floor care experience, including the operation of scrubbers, buffers, burnishers, extractors, wet vacs, and/or suction machines is preferred. Prior housekeeping experience is a plus.Open Date:
