Position SummaryReporting to the Student Life Coordinator, the Student Wellness and Basic Needs Coordinator has direct oversight for planning, coordinating, implementing and assessing of college-wide programs and services designed to identify and meet the needs of under-resourced and high needs students, to promote student success, retention, and completion by removing barriers to their education; and perform a full range of the more complex program support and clerical assistance duties in support of the basic needs program area.

Responsibilities include overseeing food pantry services at all college locations, student advocacy, mandated reporting, and informational and referral coordination on and off campus wellness resources. The specialist develops and maintains relationships with college and community partners in an effort to provide comprehensive and cohesive services, information, and programs to CSM students. Supervise 2 student employees and/or federal work study students and serve as a liaison between the college food pantry program (all campus locations) and college departments.

The work schedule for this position is 20-30 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There is flexibility to the days/hours and primary office location as approved by supervisor. Some travel between campuses may be required.

  • Develop, maintain, and evaluate food pantry services at all college locations. Oversee the daily operations of the food pantries and serves as point of contact for Maryland Food Bank partnership and/or other community resource partnerships. Provide direct oversight and fiscal management of the program budget, related grants and/or CSM Foundation sponsorships and make recommendations regarding allocation of resources and expenditure of funds. Serve as administrator for food pantry reporting and data collection. Makes recommendation for services to be provided to students.
  • Plan, coordinate, implement and assess college-wide programs and services designed to identify and meet the needs of under-resourced and high needs students.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with the community and college partners. Provide comprehensive and cohesive services, information, and programs to all CSM students for basic needs security. Research external funding opportunities to support emergency support services and basic needs programming.
  • Collaborate with Academic Advising, Financial Assistance, and other student support services to provide comprehensive services to students.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train part-time student staff, federal work-study students and volunteers to work in the college food pantries and/or assist with additional administrative tasks as needed or assigned.
  • Serve as member of divisional and college-wide committees as requested.
    • Establish and maintain student/client confidentiality using FERPA.

    Additional Duties:
    Performs other related work as required. Minimum Education and Training
    • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
    Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required
  • Experience in a student affairs/student services area with progressively greater responsibility preferred. Experience includes internships and volunteer work. Community college experience preferred.
  • Ability to work well and interact effectively and plan programs with diverse populations, including traditional and non-traditional students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations in an effective manner.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs.
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment of the value of student engagement and the impact of basic needs in the life of students apart of a comprehensive community college.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to make group presentations.
  • Project management skills and the familiarity with program evaluation and assessment.
  • Ability to maintain all required Maryland Food Bank food safety licensing/trainings at designated intervals.
    • Ability to maintain insurability under the college’s vehicle liability insurance plan.
    • Ability to maintain a valid Maryland driver’s license and a safe driving record to drive a college or personal vehicle

    Physical Requirements:

    The work requires some lifting of between 25 – 40 pounds for food pantry/storage activities
