Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking several Jupiter Burrow Student Operations Managers, Jupiter, FL.

Jupiter Burrow Student Operations Managers (OM) serve as the superintendents of the Jupiter Student Union (Burrow), ensuring quality service for users through efficient oversight of building operations, facility management, and information desk activities. Guests in the Burrow can rely on the OM to help answer a variety of university related questions and provide help with event information on the Jupiter Campus. Furthermore, the OM maintains a friendly, orderly, and resourceful environment within the Burrow through oversight of Lost and Found items, Scantron/Blue Book check out, Umbrella Loan Program, gaming equipment checkout, performance of regular facility rounds, answering the phone, distributing packages to offices, campus advertisement approval, and other clerical duties. This position is effective and efficient in maintaining operating standards, safety of the facility, and abiding by university policy while also adhering to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Law and Regulation standards.

This position is internship compliant and eligible for enrollment in IDS 3949: Professional Internship Course. The internship can be registered for 0-2 credits per semester based on supervisor approval. Student is responsible for course registration and payment of fees if registered for credit. Internship designation will be determined prior to Add/Drop class enrollment period of each employment semester (excluding summers).

Summary of Responsibilities Include:

  • Serve as first point of contact in the Burrow, providing excellent customer service to all guests.
  • Submit detailed shift reports including description of the shift, facility round reports, maintenance or custodial issues, incident reports, etc.
  • Responsible for assisting the event point person, building safety, emergency procedures, and maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the Burrow.
  • Facilitate Scantron and Blue Book distribution, equipment checkout, and inventory verifications.
  • Perform regular interior walk through rounds checking all doors and reporting any anomalies.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and security of the Burrow.
  • Holding self, peers, and guests accountable for the policies and procedures of the Burrow, Department of Campus Life, and Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management (SAEM) mission and vision.
  • Reporting and logging all information pertaining to events, activities, and emergencies.
  • Managing the facility with prioritization and ownership.
  • Meet with supervisor regularly for feedback, guidance, and professional development.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Communication Skills: Articulate thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively in written and oral forms to persons inside and outside of the organization.

  • Exemplify effective verbal and written communication through proper phone and email etiquette.
  • Serve as front desk reception and greeting all Burrow guests.
  • Follow up on messages and filing necessary reports.

Work Ethic & Professionalism: Demonstrate personal accountability and effective work habits, e.g., punctuality, working productively with others, time workload management, and understand the impact of non-verbal communication on professional work image.

  • Gain experience working in a professional environment (being punctual, adhering to dress code).
  • Prioritize tasks with a focus on customer service.
  • Attend a 1-hour Bystander Intervention Training (part of the SAEM Core Training Program).
  • Attend a 1-hour Title IX for Student Employees Training (part of the SAEM Core Training Program).

Teamwork/Collaboration Skills: Build collaborative relationships with colleagues and customers representing diverse cultures, races, ages, genders, religions, lifestyles, and viewpoints.

  • Interact with other departments on campus and understand how they contribute to the FAU community.
  • Planning, coordination, and execution of projects as assigned.

Critical Thinking/Problem Solving Skills: Exercise sound reasoning to analyze issues, make decisions, and overcome problems.

  • Assist with student, parent, faculty, staff, and community member questions with a courteous and professional demeanor by utilizing knowledge of the department and the university.
  • Develop a project or study related to the operational or facility improvement of the Burrow on a semesterly basis with guidance/direction from supervisor; present findings to Campus Life department leadership including the Director and Associate Director.

Leadership Skills: Leverage the strengths of others to achieve common goals and use interpersonal skills to coach and develop others.

  • Attend a 1-hour Leadership Institute (part of the SAEM Core Training Program).
  • Preparation and project leadership.
  • Engaging and negotiating with students and staff.

Digital Technology Skills: Select and use appropriate technology to accomplish a given task; the individual is also able to apply computing skills to solve problems.

  • Utilize computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite, Google Apps, R25 room reservation system, FAMIS work order system, and FUSION equipment management software.
  • Perform clerical duties including copying, filing, and scanning.

Global/Intercultural Fluency: Value, respect, and learn from diverse cultures, races, ages, genders, sexual orientations, and religions.

  • Attend a 3-hour ADL Campus of Difference Diversity Training (part of the Student Affairs Core Training Program).
  • Respectful engagement with multi-culture and diverse students, employers, and staff.

Career Management: Identify and articulate one's skills, strengths, knowledge, and experiences relevant to the position desired and career goals and identify areas necessary for professional growth.

  • Attend a 1-hour Career Readiness session (part of the SAEM Core Training Program).
  • Meet with Career Counselor to discuss how to highlight the professional transferable skills gained through this position and showcase career readiness in resume building, interviewing skills, LinkedIn profile development, applying to grad school, or other professional pursuits.

Minimum Qualifications:

Degree-seeking undergraduate student taking a minimum of six credit hours and a 2.0 GPA required.

Availability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and in some cases holiday break periods.

Must have strong customer service skills, experience, effective written and verbal communication skills.

Must have ability and comfortableness with handling peer confrontation and holding them accountable for policies and regulations of using the Burrow.

Must be organized, able to multi-task and oversee multiple projects at once.

Superior time management skills.

Ability to work independently.

Exceptional operating skills and knowledge of technology and devices.

$10.00 hourly
