Position Description: The University of Missouri Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology seeks to expand its expertise in virology, particularly influenza and emerging infectious diseases research, by hiring a talented Assistant or Associate Professor. This 12-month faculty position will be a part of the MU Center for Influenza and Emerging Infectious Diseases (CIEID) and will contribute in significant ways to the Emerging Infections pillar of the NextGen Precision Health initiative in the University of Missouri System (https://precisionhealth.umsystem.edu/). The University of Missouri is an AAU member, Carnegie R1 institution, and one of the most comprehensive land grant universities in the nation that includes engineering, health professions, agriculture, human medicine, and veterinary medicine. Responsibilities: We seek dynamic individuals who will lead an extramurally funded research program, train graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and contribute to one or more of the educational missions in undergraduate or graduate education. An ideal candidate will have broad influenza research experience, including but not limited to human, avian, swine, and other animal hosts. The desired focus of the research is on influenza virology, including studies of disease transmission and vaccine efficacy. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a robust, collaborative, externally funded research program creating impactful contributions to the fields of influenza and emerging infectious diseases.
All candidates are expected to have a PhD degree or equivalent with postdoctoral in virology, infectious diseases, or a related field.
Candidates will be evaluated on: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to facilitate research and teaching are required. Applicants for an Assistant Professor position must have a record of achievement and productivity and also demonstrate the potential to establish and maintain a robust externally funded research program. Applicants for an Associate Professor position must have an established extramurally funded research program with a strong record of peer-reviewed publications and national/international recognition appropriate for rank. An ability to communicate well in research and educational settings and evidence of past research collaborations or a willingness to work in related research areas. Individuals with an interest in influenza virology, particularly transmission and vaccines/vaccination, are specifically sought.
