Organizational Unit Overview:

Facilities Services is a unit in Campus Operations Division, which is a part of a broad, diverse division of Administration and Finance that includes all aspects of facilities management at East Carolina University. East Carolina University is the third-largest university in the University of North Carolina system with approximately 28,000 FTS and a staff of over 6,000. The university is comprised of more than 7 million square feet of facilities located on approximately 1400 acres with physical assets in excess of $1.5 billion. This includes the Main, Health Sciences, and West Research Campuses, and satellite locations throughout North Carolina associated with university programs. Facilities Services has an annual budget in excess of $30 million and employs approximately 500 FTE. Major functions include facilities maintenance and housekeeping services.
Facilities Service’s primary purpose is to plan and perform corrective and preventive maintenance functions on all building structures and equipment and utility infrastructure. Corrective maintenance returns equipment to optimal design performance after failure or upon degradation from age, adverse operation conditions, etc. Preventive maintenance minimizes equipment failures and reduces corrective maintenance.

Job Duties :

This position will inspect, test, maintain, and repair all electrical generation, distribution, and utilization equipment on the Main Campus to include but not limited to: electrical transmission and distribution conductors, raceways, switches, transformers, sectionalizing switches, switchgear, switch boards, panel boards, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, generators, automatic transfer switches, generators, uninterruptible power supplies, lighting control systems, lighting contractors, lighting fixtures, egress lighting/signage, fire detection & notification systems, power monitoring/metering systems, security access systems, and public address systems; Establish, implement, and conduct preventative maintenance programs that meet or exceed all OEM recommendations and the recommendations of NFPA 70B; Continually review issues pertaining to the electrical distribution system and utilization equipment to maximize reliability and minimize impact to building occupants. Ensure that a safe work environment is maintained for all faculty, staff, students, and coworkers; or any other duties assigned by Supervisor.

Minimum Education/Experience:

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

License or Certification required by statute or regulation:

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

Applicant should have a minimum of five years of experience in the installation and repair of commercial/industrial electrical systems. Applicants should have experience working with systems voltages from 120vac up to 12,470vac. Applicants should have a good working knowledge of the current versions of the NFPA: 70, 70B, 70E, 72, 101, and 110. Applicants with a current license from the NC State Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors (limited, intermediate, or unlimited) are a plus.

License or Certification required by the Department:

A valid NC driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
