Facilities Services is a unit in Campus Operations Division, which is a part of a broad, diverse division of Administration and Finance that includes all aspects of facilities management at East Carolina University. East Carolina University is the third largest university in the University of North Carolina system with approximately 28,000 FTS and a staff of over 6,000. The university is comprised of more than 7 million square feet of facilities located on approximately 1400 acres with physical assets in excess of $1.5 billion. This includes the Main, Health Sciences, and West Research Campuses, and satellite locations throughout North Carolina associated with university programs. Facilities Services has an annual budget in excess of $30 million and employs approximately 500 FTE. Major functions include facilities maintenance and housekeeping services.
Facilities Service’s primary purpose is to plan and perform corrective and preventive maintenance functions on all building structures and equipment and utility infrastructure. Corrective maintenance returns equipment to optimal design performance after failure or upon degradation from age, adverse operation conditions, etc. Preventive maintenance minimizes equipment failures and reduces corrective maintenance.
The primary purpose of this position is to receive work order requests, set priorities, and make assignments for staff of approximately ten (10) consisting of Power Distribution Electricians and General Electricians; manage major and minor repairs and renovations (i.e., such as medium voltage distribution equipment replacements) inspect jobs sites and the work of contractors for quality and adherence to construction/university plans and specifications; evaluate condition of all electrical equipment for the development of annual repairs and renovation project funding request; evaluate preventive and predictive maintenance programs for effectiveness and opportunities for improvement; and manage performance of staff to ensure: efficient utilization of department resources, maintenance of a safe work environment, assess each employee’s demonstrated competencies to ensure they are demonstrating the knowledge, skills and abilities required to make the organization successful, and create development plans. Train staff in the proper use of tools, work methods, and new equipment systems. Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and replace the electrical equipment, and control systems on all campus buildings through the supervision of staff. This position has primary responsibilities for design, installation, modification, adjustment, troubleshooting, and repair electrical instrumentation used in building utility metering systems and lighting control systems. These systems consist of computer-operated hardware with remote processors and field devices interconnected to provide transfer of information back to the enterprise management systems with the remote operation and control of components, (i.e., lighting systems, etc.) The position manages the service of equipment such as solid-state motor starters, variable speed drives, and electronic controls. Work is performed independently under the supervision of an Assistant Director of Utilities Services and is evaluated through effective and efficient equipment operation. Work performance is reviewed by inspection of completed work for quality and compliance with project plans and specifications and departmental work orders. The position participates in new building examinations and inspections attend construction conferences with contractors and architects and takes part in final inspections of new facilities The position is additionally responsible for maintenance inspections, computer operations, budget management, and supervising of staff subordinate positions in the performance of their duties. The position assists in training other electrical trade persons to ensure that they are competent to complete repairs and maintenance on various types of electrical systems. The position is responsible for the administration of contracts and departmental material procurement, inventory, and audit duties.Minimum Education/Experience:

Applicant should have a minimum of five years of experience in the installation and repair of commercial/industrial electrical systems. Applicants should have experience working with systems voltages from 120vac up to 12,470vac. Applicants should have a good working knowledge of the current versions of the NFPA: 70, 70B, 70E, 72, 101, and 110. Applicants with a current license from the NC State Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors (limited, intermediate, or unlimited) are a plus.License or Certification required by the Department:
