We are seeking a Research Project Manager to join our team in a full-time role. The scientist will work independently and in a small team setting to support our high-throughput LC/MS-based proteomic profiling platform. We are looking for an experienced scientist/technologist interested in developing and applying proteomics technologies to solve complex biological problems and interested in working in a fast-paced, innovative, and highly collaborative research environment. This opening is for an experienced and self-motivated individual to support a state-of-the-art LCMS facility as a lead application scientist supporting multiple collaborative projects. As a senior member of the Center for Network Systems Biology (CNSB) at Boston University, the candidate will work within a multi-disciplinary research team that includes basic scientists, computational biologists, molecular biologists, and mass spectrometrists.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain recently two installed Orbitrap Exploris instrument systems and to perform qualitative and quantitative Proteomics studies, and to engage as a lead with collaborating scientists
  • This will include working closely with project scientists in other collaborating laboratories to process and interpret samples of interest, and to implement optimized proteomics assays to measure relevant proteome features in a robust manner
  • The candidate will interact with scientists across the university and lead discussions around assay implementation and interpretation of quantitative proteomics data in support of ongoing research and technology development projects
  • The candidate must have excellent communication skills and work well in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Experience with HPLC, chemical crosslinking and affinity proteomics is a plus
Required Skills
  • M.Sc. or equivalent degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, analytical chemistry or mass spectrometry
  • 3-5 years of research experience / 2+ years hands-on LC-MS experience
  • Proven ability to prepare high quality samples for mass spectrometry-based proteomics
  • Experience working with high performance HPLC/nanoUHPLC and LCMS instrumentation, ideally in operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of Orbitrap systems/software (XCalibur, Tune. Experience with LCMS method development, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with proteomics raw data processing, interpretation, and visualization
  • Understanding of proteomic best lab practices for sample handling and preparation
  • Experience and operational knowledge of high throughput setups and proteomics approaches
  • Experience with quantitative LCMS workflows (e.g. TMT, label-free protein quantitation) and PTM analysis for discovery proteomics
  • Solid biology/biochemistry understanding for experimental planning and data interpretation
  • Ability to analyze experimental data, prepare reports and publications and communicate results
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment a strong team player
  • Excellent oral and written capabilities
  • Strong understanding of statistical and computational methods
  • Experience with R, MATLAB, or python and general computational abilities
