The Criminology and Criminal Justice Program at the University of Rhode Island invites candidates to apply for a full-time lecturer position starting in Fall 2021. We seek candidates with demonstrated excellence in teaching courses in criminology and criminal justice who will teach core and elective classes in our major and potentially develop new elective options that expand our curriculum.
This full-time, non-tenure track position is limited to one year with anticipated renewal.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach 12 credit hours on URI’s Kingston campus in the Criminology and Criminal Justice Program per semester or the equivalent in other duties such as advising undergraduate majors. Hold regular office hours for students, attend Program faculty meetings and participate in service to the program as they pertain to normal instructional responsibilities. The successful candidate will teach required undergraduate introductory courses and upper-division electives courses in the major with the opportunity to develop new elective courses specific to the candidate’s interests.
1. Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or closely related discipline. (a J.D. is not sufficient for this position).
2. Demonstrated excellence in teaching criminology, criminal justice, or closely related courses at the college/university level. (TA experience will be considered).
3. Ability to teach face-to-face courses on URI’s Kingston Campus.
4. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
5. Demonstrated proficiency in oral communication.
6. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication.
1. Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or closely related discipline.
2. Experience teaching criminology, criminal justice, or closely related courses at the college/university level as the instructor of record.
3. Experience teaching online or blended classes.
