Position Summary:

UC Irvine’s Department of Surgery faculty members have expertise in multiple complex diseases and are integrated to subspecialties including cancer, gastrointestinal disease, vascular diseases cardiovascular diseases, hepatobiliary disease, trauma, and surgical critical care. The department has become one of the region’s most prestigious clinical, research and academic surgical programs. For more than 50 years, the Department of Surgery has been dedicated to helping patients live well and stay well. In consultation with the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), incumbent serves as Finance Manager for the Department of Surgery. The Finance Manager plays a key role on the Department management team, which includes the Department Chair, Finance Committee, CAO, and Clinical Revenue Analyst. The Finance Manager works directly with the CAO and Chair to implement strategies to ensure successful fiscal management of the Department. Incumbent plans, directs, implements, organizes, and manages business office functions including accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, contract, and grant account management, purchasing and accounts payable functions, and equipment and facilities management. Incumbent is responsible for financial reporting and analysis, compliance, information systems management, finance office supervision and personnel management. Incumbent oversees day-to-day operations, performs independent analyses, makes decisions that affect department financial operations, develops, and implements procedures, and recommends policy changes to CAO, Chair and Finance Committee to ensure compliance with policies, rules and regulations imposed by government and outside agencies, School of Medicine, campus, and University authorities.

Compensation Range:

Annually: $69,900.00 - $88,150.00

Required:

7-9 years with BA/BS in Accounting, Business, Math, or Finance.

Bachelor’s degree in related field Advanced degree preferred.

Advanced knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems. Ability to identify, collect, and analyze information from multiple sources.

Advanced ability to effectively present complex finance related information both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.

In depth ability to use multiple spreadsheet and database software tools to gather information for specialized, complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.

Advanced interpersonal skills at all levels within the organization; advanced service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. In depth ability to use organizational skills to multi-task in a high-volume environment. Ability to adapt to changing priorities.

Ability to function as a member of a team.

Preferred:

Advanced knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.

Knowledge of UC policy and procedures in areas of finance, contract, and grant management, purchasing, and payroll.

Knowledge of School of Medicine policy and procedures in these areas.

Experience utilizing UCI network systems, including all financial, personnel, and payroll systems.

Demonstrated knowledge of School of Medicine, UCI campus and general UC accounting, purchasing, travel, and payroll policies and procedures.
