Job Summary/Basic Function:

Boise State Career Services is part of the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. We are a dynamic team of career services professionals who are committed to providing outstanding service to all our stakeholders – students, alumni, faculty, staff, employers, and the community. Our mission is student success through career education and professional connections that support them in achieving their post-graduation goals. The Employer Engagement Specialist will have the opportunity to positively impact Career Service’s ability to provide students with career resources and professional connections. We are seeking candidates who possess a strong service mindset and interpersonal skills to effectively support and communicate with employers, students, and colleagues across campus along with the ability and enthusiasm to manage and continuously improve events and the systems and platforms connected with employer relations.

Level Scope:

Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.

Essential Functions:

Build and foster positive employer relationships by:

  • Serving as both a resource and liaison to employers who are interested in recruiting at the university
  • Identifying employers’ needs and recommending a recruiting strategy
  • Continually encouraging and supporting additional ways employers can connect with students
  • Assisting employers with their job postings and event registrations
  • Communicating career events and employer services to employers via targeted emails
  • Being knowledgeable about university programs and our student population to inform employers with specific recruiting needs

Manage and coordinate Career Services events by:

  • Establishing an annual events calendar to strategically support and engage all student populations with targeted employers
  • Building collaborative relationships with the University community to develop in-person and virtual events that effectively connect students and employers.
  • Planning, implementing and overseeing the logistics of Career Fairs and other department career events
  • Collaborating with Career Services Marketing and Communications team and career liaisons to ensure thorough and timely communication and marketing for all events and opportunities
  • Overseeing the event evaluation process and preparing reports and analyses of all events, implementing improvements

Manage and administer the career services management system by:

  • Working closely with vendor on troubleshooting, training, and system updates
  • Implementing and communicating system updates/enhancements to maximize the effectiveness of the system for career services, employers, and students
  • Proactively seeking input from stakeholders to continuously improve the system and increase use
  • Training and supporting student employees to work in the system and assist all users
  • Working directly with employers to ensure they are effectively using the system to connect with students through event registrations, virtual career fair sessions, employer information sessions, job postings, and on-campus interviews
  • Reviewing new employer registrations and job/internship postings for legitimacy, accuracy, and completeness before approving; and contacting employers for more information when necessary
  • Managing a process to ensure job postings are promoted to students, alumni, and departments
  • Running system reports, analyzing the data, and preparing reports to inform decision making

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to listen carefully and communicate tactfully
  • Detail oriented and able to engage in multiple tasks
  • A motivated/enthusiastic work style and proven ability to work with a broad range of internal and external constituents
  • Experience as an effective and contributing member of a team
  • Ability to identify customers’ needs and demonstrate a commitment to excellent customer service
  • High ethical standards, knowledge and appreciation of cross-cultural and bias issues, and demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations
  • Strong commitment to student life and learning, and to student career development

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 4 years experience
  • Experience administering a career services, recruiting, or customer relations management system
  • Experience analyzing data and preparing reports to inform decision making

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution
  • 4+ years’ experience in higher education or recruitment
  • Experience working in a university career center
  • Experience administering a career services management system (i.e., Handshake)
  • Experience managing events
  • Experience with statistical packages (such as SPS) and strong Excel skills to analyze and communicate large data sets
