Associate Director Of Sports Nutrition - Athletics

Regular Full-time, Market Range 10

The Associate Director of Sports Nutrition works under the direction of the Director of Sports Nutrition on the provision of nutrition related services to student-athletes competing on all varsity athletic teams for the university.  This position is responsible for providing senior level work direction to two full-time staff, interns, and student workers and volunteers.   The position is also responsible for the oversight and management of two Nutrition station  locations.

Job Functions/Responsibilitis:

Assists with all nutrition and dietitian related services provided to all Olympic Sports student-athletes. (450+)
Train incoming volunteers, interns, and new staff members  on policies, procedures and expectations
Oversee and manage the Carmichael Training Facility nutrition station and Thornton Center nutrition station.
• Provide nutritional counseling and education for individual student-athletes and teams.  
• Conduct nutritional assessments and screenings for individuals and team.  
• Implement sports team nutritional plans, including consultation on team meals and fueling strategies based on schedule/activities.
• Works with members of the athletics coaching staff, the strength and conditioning staff, the sports medicine staff and related student-athlete service providers to ensure a collaborative and comprehensive approach to training, nutrition and recovery, as well as aiding in the treatment of diet and nutritional related medical issues.
• Plan and implement nutritional recovery process for individuals and teams.  
• Conduct body composition assessments by utilizing and maintaining appropriate technology (i.e. Bodpod). 
• Conduct nutritional assessments and counseling upon referral from team physician or Director of Mental Wellness, for athletes with clinical nutritional needs, such as eating disorders, IBS, Celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, food allergies, and diabetes.  

• Provide senior level work direction to two full time dietitians, intern nutritionist, as well as undergraduate student interns and student workers.  
• Consults with the Training Table (Smokey's Grill) staff and management regarding issues such as menu content and preparation, meal deliveries, and team meal schedules.   
• Collaborates with the Director of Sports Nutrition  in developing, managing and overseeing nutrition budget and related policies and procedures.  

• Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary sports performance team for all athletic teams.  
•Communicate with Director of Sports Nutrition , Team Physician and Director of Sports Medicine to research, evaluate, recommend, purchase, distribute and monitor permissible and effective nutritional supplements with attention to NCAA and IOC rules, regulations and nutrition related bylaws.  

• Travel with teams as required. 



Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Nutrition or related field required.

Master's degree in Nutrition or related field and Registered and Licensed Dietician (RD/LDN) Via American Dietetic Associate preferred.

Required level/type of experience:

Experience working as a dietitian/nutritionist in collegiate athletics at the Division I level or comparable. 

Preferred level/type of experience:

Experience working directly with elite athletes as a dietitian/nutritionist. 
Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) preferred
