General Summary

Maintain all assigned activity areas and/or facilities. Move, set up and take down performance equipment such as removable floors, bleachers and staging in assigned facilities. Operate equipment and vehicles as required. Areas of assignment may include Athletic facilities, the Convocation Center, Pease Auditorium, or the IPF.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Mow, grade, roll, pack and otherwise maintain athletic grounds areas such as football turf and grass fields, baseball diamonds, tracks, tennis courts and other related facilities.

May paint practice and competition fields for soccer, baseball and softball.

Set-up and tear down of department owned audio and video equipment.

Operate and maintain equipment, hand and power tools and vehicles such as tractors, hi-los, trucks, vacuums and other related equipment and vehicles.

Move, erect, set up and dismantle portable event equipment such as sico staging, bleachers, backstops, obstacles, wrestling mats, scoring tables, gymnastics equipment, portable basketball floor and other related event equipment as assigned.

Set up and maintain the Yesco computer scoreboard.
Operate house lights, spotlights, sound system and message center for appropriate events.

Assist in the operation of all events and outside groups using the Convocation Center, Pease Auditorium or the Indoor Practice Facility.

Maintain cleanliness of work, storage, and athletic areas, and all vehicle tools and equipment used in the performance of duties.

Utilize and store protective ground canvases.

Set up and take down performance areas and arrangements at the start and completion of events and practices.

Report any damage, malfunction, irregularities, and/or potential hazards in buildings, grounds, equipment, vehicles or supplies to supervisor.

If applicable to area of assignment, adhere to any and all NCAA, Mid-Amerian Conference and Eastern Michigan University policies, rules, regulations, and operational procedures.

Occasional interaction with outside contractors, vendors or facility renters.

Perform related departmental duties as required.

Qualifications

Ability to read, write, interpret instructions, and perform basic arithmetic, typically acquired through the completion of a high school education is necessary.

Ability and willingness to work weekends, nights, swing shifts and/or variable schedule is necessary.

Ability to perform physically active work of a medium-heavy nature, pushing, pulling, climbing, and walking to perform maintenance, preparation, and set up of athletic areas and facilities; and occasional exertion up to 75 pounds, and routine exertion of 50 pounds is necessary. Prolonged exertion of up to 90 pounds is required to lift, carry and place objects such as sections of a portable floor.
One year of experience in Athletics providing knowledge of tools, equipment, and methods used in the preparation, setup, and maintenance of athletic grounds and facilities is necessary for employees assigned to the Athletic Department or Convocation Center.

Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license is necessary.

Ability to meet Departmental standards of reasonable personal hygiene is necessary.

Hilo/forklift operator's certification is required within one week of hire.

One year of experience in events operations providing knowledge of lighting, sound systems, and message center or similar equipment is required for employees assigned to the Athletic Department.

One year of experience in the set up and operation of scoreboard and audio headset systems is required for employees assigned to the Athletic Department or Convocation Center.

One year of experience in overall game management and event operations is required.
