Job Description

  • Uses positive reinforcement and encouragement to develop children's communication skills, promote sharing, build self-esteem, and foster children's ability to express themselves.
  • Reads, sings, and plays with children during various indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Maintains clean and safe environment by wiping down tables, sweeping floors and outdoor playground, washing dishes, and disposing of trash.
  • Assists teacher in the supervision and implementation of developmental instructional activities by redirecting children to different learning activities when they are causing a distraction or are not able to focus on the current learning activity.
  • Monitors students to ensure safety during play by organizing various indoor/outdoor activities that encourage sharing and safe interaction with other students.
  • Provides health and safety maintenance by assisting students with toileting, diapering, washing hands, brushing teeth, tying shoes, and properly wearing backpacks and jackets.
  • Assists with meals by arranging and serving pre-prepared food at appropriate temperatures according to direction, monitoring and assisting children during meal consumption, and helping children dispose of garbage.
  • Collects and tracks information, including attendance, sign-in sheets, meal counts, and student counts before and after outdoor activities.
  • Assists Teacher in monitoring, evaluating, and assessing the progress and developmental levels of children through observation and basic documentation.
  • Performs clerical duties, such as answering phones, requesting and acquiring supplies from Child Development Office, and taking supplies or messages to and from multiple classrooms.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience and some experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

1 year experience ; college course work in Early Childhood Education
