50th ANNIVERSARY MULTIMEDIA COORDINATOR - (TEMPORARY/ENTRY LEVEL) SANFORD SCHOOL OF PUBLIC POLICY

This fulltime position in the Duke University Sanford School of Public Policy, a top 10 public policy school, will provide overall coordination and support to the planning, implementation and tracking of “50 years of public policy” at Duke University in 2021-2022.
This position is designed as a 1-year opportunity to position Sanford for the future. This position will serve as the lead staff coordinator for all 50th content, activities, and outreach. In addition, this position will create and gather 50th anniversary related content across media and distribute to key audiences including the public policy community (policymakers and scholars), the Duke community (leaders, faculty, staff, and students), Sanford community (faculty/staff/students), prospective students, alumni and friends. This position will be the point person for all 50th anniversary related interactions.
This position will coordinate with the school's communications team, centers, programs, and the entire Duke community. The Fellow will be supervised by the Associate Dean of Communications and Marketing, with significant interaction and work with the Associate Dean of Development and Alumni Relations.
A detailed description of functional areas and tasks follows:
50th coordination/outreach (30%)
As directed by leadership of Sanford Communications and Sanford Development and Alumni Relations, Fellow will serve as the lead coordinator and bridge between units, Sanford, and Duke. Job duties for coordination and outreach include:
- Be the full-time point person for all 50th anniversary content, questions, and resources during the academic year.
- Assist Sanford DAR team with 50th messaging and outreach to alumni and friends.
- Assist the Sanford communications and events coordinator with 50th anniversary events and assist centers/programs with 50th related activities.
- Regularly share 50th information with key Duke sources, including The Duke Daily, Duke Today, Duke Alumni magazine, and others as assigned.
- Pitch 50th stories to local/state/national/world media under the guidance of the Sanford communications team.
50th content development/curation (30%)
As directed by leadership of Sanford Communications and Sanford Development and Alumni Relations, Fellow will gather, create, organize, and curate content related to the 50th anniversary: history (20%), the present (20%), the future (45%), and calls to action (5%). Job duties include:
- Develop, implement, and update content calendar during the 50th year.
- Plan and implement 50th content campaigns in key channels, including social media, alumni magazine, Sanford publications and 50th website.
- Develop and implement digital campaigns, including crowdsourced content campaigns from alumni, friends, and students.
- Gather, edit and feature submitted content from alumni, faculty, and staff throughout the year.
- Write profiles and content for various sources.
- Monitor and gather 50th anniversary stories and reactions.
- Assist with dean communications to provide 50th messaging to Duke community and peer deans.
- Work with vendors and add to 50th multimedia content and marketing items for electronic distribution, market content to appropriate audiences.
- Develop 50th graphics from branded toolkit throughout the year.
- Help document and capture activity visually from the 50th year in photos, screen captures, short videos, student voices, and other ideas.
- Assist with scheduling interviews with alumni to targeted audiences.
50th website management (30%)
- Create fresh content and update the 50th digital platform daily.
- Work with Sanford communications team on any technical updates related to platform.
- Monitor and share Google analytics with communications and development/alumni leadership.
- Share website calls to action in content/communications.
- Ensure Duke/Sanford/centers/programs have active cross-links to 50th website.
50th planning/reporting (10%)
- Update 50th plan weekly and track progress on activities.
- Share 50th updates with Associate Deans and other leaders as assigned.
- Track and report pre and post 50th metrics.

Position requires communications, analytical, and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree program in journalism, public relations, English, or digital media production, as well as a proven record of being able to use social media tools effectively.
