Organizational Unit Overview:

ECDOI is well known for cutting-edge collaborative research in several fields to disorders of metabolism, including bariatric surgery, muscle insulin signaling/glucose transport, bioenergetics/exercise physiology, and pediatric healthy weight programs.

The mission of the East Carolina Diabetes and Obesity Institute is to develop, promote, facilitate, and support interdisciplinary basic and clinical research in disorders of metabolism including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and cancer.

Job Duties :

The Ellis lab is focused on the regulation of lipid metabolism and its effects on health and disease. The current projects in the lab concern the regulation of lipid metabolism, mitochondrial metabolism, and membrane biology with a focus on either neurobiology or muscle biology. The selected candidate will assist with lab projects, both ongoing and developing, and will be expected to work well with others. The work duties associated with the position reflect the general lab operations of the lab. The technician will be trained to independently conduct experiments using multiple techniques commonly used in our research (including work with research mice, molecular biology (genotyping, western blotting, real-time PCR), and histology), perform troubleshooting, provide training for a new person.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

License or Certification required by statute or regulation:

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

BS in chemistry, biochemistry, or related area, and related research experience required.

Preferred Master’s or equivalent.

License or Certification required by the Department:
