09-Apr-2021 Close All Job SummaryThe Career Advisor for the College of Media, Communication, and Information and College of Music is responsible for coordinating and developing career support, engaging students in career programs, crafting resources, and developing meaningful connections with students, staff, and faculty within the colleges. This position works closely with the Employer Team to cultivate relationships with employers in relevant industries.
Additional responsibilities include:
  • Provide career advising to students exploring majors and careers and assists students with professional development planning (including jobs, internships, and graduate/professional school) and building and sustaining professional relationships and networks through individual appointments, small-group appointments and drop-ins.
  • Build and facilitate engaging presentations and workshops on relevant and timely career topics.
  • Act as the departmental liaison for the Business Minor program.
  • May provide supervision, training, and mentoring for 1-3 student employees.
This position is a part of the Embedded Career Team in Career Services. The goal of the Embedded Career Team is to build strategic connections and relationships with key stakeholders that include students, faculty, academic advisors and coaches, and staff within the assigned college or school. Through these connections, the Embedded Career Advisors will work towards infusing career development throughout the student experience.

Key Initiatives include: Tailor and optimize career planning, programs, and resources for all colleges, schools, and programs on campus to ensure their diverse needs are met. Build and implement tools, technology, resources and communities of practice that support career work for all students and alumni. Connect students with employers with a focus on responsive & cutting-edge services for external partners and coordinate events that are relevant for students and alum. Develop a Community of Practice to work on internships and professional experiences and scale up programming that builds experience, skills, and confidence for all students.What Your Key Responsibilities Will BeStudent Facing
  • Provide career advising for students and/or alumni in a combination of scheduled appointments, drop-in sessions, document reviews, email correspondence, and follow-up tasks.
  • Develop and build career and professional development content for engaging presentations and facilitate training in a variety of modalities both in-person and virtual.
  • Track data on partner engagement, maintain contact logs, and notes from career advising appointments.
  • Develop professional skills and knowledge, stay up to date with relevant literature, trends, and standard methodologies. Participate in local and national professional development.
Liaison Development
  • Serve as point of contact for the College of Media, Communication & Information, the College of Music and the Business Minor. Attend meetings with key partners, participate in relevant committees and projects, advocate for and represent Career Services, train key partners, share relevant information from liaisons with Career Services’ staff, and collaborate on partnered events.
  • Develop strategic relationships with staff, faculty, and advisors.
  • Write and edit career development content for the website, CU Boulder today articles, resources, and tools.
Employer Engagement
  • Collaborate with internal Career Services Employer team to gain familiarity with employers recruiting students in their liaison area.
  • Facilitate opportunities for employers and students to connect through programming and events.
Assessment and Technology
  • Track and report participant engagement in alignment with departmental strategic goals and procedural guidance.
  • Manage technology and platforms related to area of responsibility.
What We Can OfferSalary Range is $47,000 - $50,341.   • Master's degree and 1 year of professional, job-related experience.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
What You Will Need
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to build rapport and guide students through the counseling process, effectively communicate to internal and external groups, and proven presentation skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks simultaneously while working collaboratively and individually.
  • Inclusive excellence competencies and experience working with a diverse student body.
  • Passion for working with undergraduate students, as well as graduate students, nontraditional students, and alumni.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty and administrators.
  • Flexibility in working hours to accommodate evening and weekend programs.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology, Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related field.
  • One year of career counseling experience including experience with administering career inventories.
