This job will require interaction with faculty members, graduate students, external engineers, and machine shop experts to assess the system to be constructed; independent design calculations based on the project system requirements; presentation to and delivery of the drawings/calculations, and then further interaction with everyone during the process of machining and construction.

Our work spans computational theory, experimental work, technoeconomical analysis and process design, and we have many collaborations with government, academia and private businessesWhat Your Key Responsibilities Will BeThis position will design various high temperature and high pressure chemical reactor systems, including reaction to 1500 degrees Celsius and up to 500 psig. Specific job functions are:
  • Support the Instrument Shop in design of the reactor tube and end fittings.
  • Structure stress analysis and tubing thermal growth calculations.
  • Perform Engineering calculations for stress, load, yield, creep and failure.
  • Perform Thermal analysis and conductivity calculations, including thermal growth.
  • Perform / Provide detailed manufacturing drawings when required.
  • Assist in material selection.
  • Attend meetings when necessary to stay up to date on progress of project.
  • Communicate with Engineering and fabrication team all relevant data and designs.
  • Review fabricated parts and assemblies with the project team.
  • Recommend certification tests to validate design elements.
