Job Summary:

The Division of Infectious Diseases seeks a Professional Research Assistant to work on innate immunity to viral infections.  The applicant will perform experiments using immortalized cell cultures and mouse models of dysregulated innate immunity to elucidate the role of double-stranded RNA sensing in instigation and maintenance of innate immune upregulation.

Examples of Work Performed

The work will entail breeding, handling, and dissecting mice, as well as managing a mouse colony. Experiments will further entail running Western blots, bacterial culture growth, protein purification, qPCRs, and perform cell culture experiments. The PRA will also use CRISPR and lentiviral vector technologies to engineer stable cell lines. The applicant will be involved in experimental design and data analyses. Approximately 25% of the PRA’s time will be devoted to performing routine lab work such as ordering supplies, making solutions, and organizing samples.

The PRA will not supervise any other individuals in the Poeschla laboratory or Division.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at $49,000 to $65,000.  This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

 

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

 

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in a natural science related field and 1+ years of experience in a basic/translational science wet bench  laboratory OR Bachelor’s Degree in a natural science related field and 4+ years of experience in a basic/translational science wet bench laboratory setting.
  • Experience in managing a wet bench laboratory and training of laboratory personnel.
  • Experience with mouse handling, husbandry and genotyping
  • Proven independence in experiment design, analysis, and result write ups.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with handling mice, mouse colony maintenance, dissections, animal surgery, and mouse injections and blood collections
  • Experience with bacterial growth, transfection, and protein isolation/purification
  • Experience with CRISP gene editing and lentiviral vector preparation
