The Marcus Institute for Brain Health (MIBH) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is a clinical care and research institute for traumatic brain injury (TBI) and associated physical and psychological health conditions such as post-traumatic stress, depression, and anxiety. The primary focus of the MIBH is to care for former military personnel who have separated from active duty, with special consideration for those who were separated with “Other Than Honorable” or “Dishonorable” discharge status due to TBI or psychological conditions. The MIBH also serves civilian adults who have sustained mild to moderate TBI, and are experiencing ongoing neurological problems and are experiencing ongoing neurological problems and cognitive, physical, and psychological conditions. The MIBH provides comprehensive interdisciplinary intensive outpatient evaluation and treatment integrating novel medical, and complementary-alternative treatment modalities.

Job Summary:

The MIBH is looking for a Veteran and Communications Program Coordinator, which involves development, marketing and management of messaging to both internal and external parties. Functions include marketing; advertising; communications; publications; brand management; writing; editing; proofreading; graphic design; web information architecture, development and design; web content development; electronic communications; social media; news media/relations; public relations; photography; videography; radio/television broadcasting; FCC compliance; and communication projects management. This position is responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. Work is performed at an advanced or expert level.

The Veteran and Communications Program Coordinator is a member of the MIBH Veteran Programs/Communications and Strategic Development team reporting to the Director of Veteran Programs. The Veteran and Communications Program Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the overall program strategy, implementation and functioning for all aspects of Veteran programs (including developing an alumni program), communications and strategic development, and ensures all Veteran program goals are aligned with the greater vision and mission of MIBH. This position may include up to 25% travel.                                 

Examples of Work Performed but not limited to:

    Develop, implement and maintain a fully functional Alumni Program Develop strong partnerships with regional outreach programs to benefit and grow MIBH and its network visibility through proactive engagement across the Veteran community to include visible participation in organizational events (may include travel) Assist with generating and developing Veteran referral sources and community and business partner organizations for the MIBH Assist with communications and promotional campaign across all mediums between Veteran programs and the other departments to drive MIBH’s visibility, value and missionUpdate and maintain the MIBH website including development of content occasionally geared towards the military and Veteran cultureUpdate and maintain the MIBH presence on Social Media platforms including content creation (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, potentially LinkedIn). Develop content for a targeted Veteran audience.Assist the Director with administrative and logistic duties related to database development and maintenance, travel and expense reports, and proposal development Create, facilitate and participate in outings with patient and partner organizations as well as outreach opportunities for purposeful engagement outside of a clinical settingCollaborate with the Case Management team on patient referrals and referral sources in line with the patient after-care program Facilitate one-on-one sessions with current patients in accordance with both the clinical and Veteran programs protocols Facilitate group sessions and/or outings with current patients in accordance with both the clinical and Veteran programs protocols Assist with the design, development, and implementation of the Veteran Programs strategy and achieving all Veteran Program goals aligned to the greater vision and mission of MIBH Assist with presenting organization information, including metrics, goals, and progress to major funders, possible partners and businesses interested in working with the MIBH and its National Network
Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $57,124 - $75,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is ineligible for overtime compensation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, public relations, communications, business administration, business, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • Four or more years of experience in marketing and communications
  • Professional experience working with various social media applications
Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years’ experience in a volunteer program
  • One or more years’ experience working with Veteran outreach programs, which include managing the development, implementation and operations of such programs
  • One or more years’ experience generating and developing Veteran referral sources
  • One or more years’ experience working within a higher education and/or medical education environment
  • Military Experience at a minimum rank of E-5 or 0-3
  • Two or more years’ experience working in a startup and/or small teams
