HSC Institutional Advancement seeks to advance HSC’s mission to create solutions for a healthier community. Through fund development, community education and alumni relations, our goal is to build meaningful relationships that expand opportunities for our students, faculty and programs in ways that transform countless lives.

Position Overview:

The Assistant Director of Development/Major Gifts is a front-line fundraiser on the development team. This position cultivates and solicits individuals with capacity to make gifts of $10,000 and above. With a seven-figure annual fundraising goal, the Assistant Director, Development/Major Gifts seeks out and develops relationships with alumni and community members to secure philanthropic support for HSC projects, research, outreach programs and other initiatives. In some cases, the position works directly with faculty to build out plans and strategies for new programs for which funding is being sought. Position will work closely with Advancement Data Services to qualify and move prospects through the giving pipeline.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.

Identify, cultivate, and solicit donors for major gifts by building engagement strategies that involve and educate prospects about UNTHSC priorities


Cultivates assigned prospects as well as identifies new target prospects whose giving priorities match against one or more of the programs/priorities at UNTHSC.


Works with Institutional Advancement’s Development team to identify and develop funding opportunities in research, educational programs, community/clinical outreach, and other areas


Works with administration faculty, staff, and volunteers as partners in the cultivation process


Is responsible for fundraising leadership of assigned projects, requiring a deep understanding and assembling of materials to share with the community


Represents a wide array of needs, to include endowments, research, student scholarships, capital needs, and community programs
