Department Description:

The Department of Radiology’s primary purpose is to provide excellent clinical care through diagnostic and interventional radiological services, educate medical students, train future radiologists through residency and fellowship programs, and engage in world class basic and clinical research. The radiology faculty/physicians provide clinical care primarily to the patients of UNC Health at the UNC Medical Center, as well as other UNC Health affiliate sites and various NC DHHS facilities across the state. The Department facilitates radiology elective courses to the medical students of the School of Medicine with our general radiology elective as well as offerings of subspeciality electives. We have a 4-year ACGME Residency Program that trains a complement of 36 diagnostic residents and 7 interventional residents. The Department of Radiology also has several 1-year diagnostic subspecialty fellowships as well as one interventional radiology fellowship. The Department of Radiology’s research efforts include a basic research component and clinical trial research component. Our nationally ranked basic research is a cross-disciplinary and multifaceted operation that features world renown research in the areas of image analysis, human imaging, small animal imaging, radiochemistry, and epidemiology. Our clinical research operation engages in industry sponsored as well as federally funded clinical trials.

Position Description:

This position will serve as Executive Assistant to the Chair for the Department of Radiology. This position serves as the first point of contact for and liaison to the Chair. Work ranges from standardized office support assignments to performance of administrative duties involving decision-making and judgment. Public contact is a major component of the Executive Assistant role, both internal and external to the department. Work requires contact with staff, managers of other units within the University and UNC Healthcare, representatives of other state agencies/universities, clients, service recipients, elected/appointed representatives, and the public.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalency and three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Associate’s degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline and one year of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience ; or Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

This position requires a strong degree of judgment and professionalism as the position has direct contact with a variety of senior level administrators throughout the School of Medicine, the University, and the Health Care System. An ability to work independently and communicate effectively with university employees and constituents at all levels is required. The position requires strong organizational skills, the ability to multi-task and manage competing deadlines, and the ability to use Microsoft Office suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 1-year experience supporting a Chair or Executive Vice Chair level leader.
• Prior experience utilizing QGenda (scheduling system).
• Comprehensive knowledge of Clinical, Educational, and Research operations of a Radiology Department in an academic medical center.
• Prior supervisory experience ideal.
