Part-time Police DispatcherPosition Summary:
Governors State University is seeking to hire a Part Time Police Dispatcher to receive incoming calls for police and security services, dispatches officers as appropriate, and monitors police radio alarms. Document police and security service requests in an electronic records management and dispatch system. Operate National Crime Information Center (NCIC) console, a computer aided mobile dispatch system.
The incumbent will possess excellent oral and written communication skills
Possess strong, interpersonal skills,
understand the surrounding area’s geography.
Be able to accurately listen and record information.
Be able to maintain their composure during periods of intense stress or during emergencies.
Police dispatchers must also answer non-emergency phone calls, which require recording the information and informing officers of the incident. Police dispatchers may even to provide emergency medical assistance to the caller over the phone while waiting for medical personnel to arrive. Additional administrative duties for police dispatchers often include typing official statements, assisting people who want to file complaints, and keeping general office records.
Salary Range: $17.20 to $18.55 per hour.
(This is an unionized position. Salary starts at the base up to an additional 5% based on Education and Experience exceeding the minimum qualifications per union contract).
THREE (3) PART-TIME POSITIONS AVAILABLE.
Part Time, Weekend Only.
7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

1. Must be a resident of the state of Illinois
2. Must be at least 21 years of age upon employment.
3. Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
4. Must successfully maintain State of Illinois
Public Safety Telecommunicator certification.
5. High School Diploma
6. Must successfully complete all internal police dispatch and related training.Preferred Qualifications:
1. Law Enforcement Agency Data System (LEADS) Certification.
