2021-22: Lecturer Focusing on Mexican Cinema

Job description

2021-22: Lecturer Focusing on Mexican Cinema
University of California Los Angeles

Requisition Number: JPF06347

The UCLA Cesar E. Chavez Department of Chicana/o and Central American Studies invites applications for part-time lecturers to teach interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate courses in Chicana and Chicano Studies during the 2021-22 academic year.

The department is seeking a candidate who specializes in issues pertaining to Mexican cinema. The instructor should discuss the representation of Mexican Americans and Chicanos in four Hollywood genres--silent greaser films, social problem films, Westerns, and gang films--that are major genres that account for films about or with Mexican Americans produced between 1908 and 1980.

As the fastest growing department in the Division of Social Sciences at UCLA, Chicana and Chicano Studies reflects not just the growth of UCLA's Chicano/Latino student body, but also more seismic demographic changes, in Los Angeles, California, and the nation. The department of Chicana and Chicano Studies strives to fortify the connection between UCLA and its surrounding urban context and chosen lecturer candidates will assist in these efforts with their ability to integrate their overlapping commitments to academic success, teaching excellence, and equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree or equivalent expertise in their field of specialization and have at least one year's teaching experience at the college level. All applicants must complete an UC Recruit online application including submission of a current Curriculum Vitae, Statement of Teaching, Statement of Contributions to Diversity, proposed course syllabi, and the names and contact information of three references.
