The Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology is seeking a full time Lab Tech I. This position will work in the laboratory of Dr. Kenneth Cusi. The objective of our laboratory is to investigate the metabolic origins and potential therapeutic approach for type II diabetes and fatty liver disease. Our lab utilizes a variety of techniques including western blotting, gene expression, enzymatic assays for quantifying hormones, nutrients etc. and mass spectrometry to profile metabolic pathways. This position will provide critical support to the members of the laboratory in performing these experiments, and assist in clinical research studies and routine laboratory maintenance. Principle duties and responsibilities assigned to this position include performing a range of biochemical and molecular assays, maintaining a variety of analytical instrumentation under the supervision, assisting in research experiments and data analysis and management of routine laboratory care.
Support ongoing research activities through the following list of duties:
• Participate in planning and logistics of experiments under supervision of PI and senior laboratory personnel
• Participate in weekly laboratory meetings to present data and plan future experiments
• Serve as a resource to teach techniques and data analysis.
• Perform a range of biochemical and molecular assays.
Provide lab management/administration support
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, including ordering laboratory supplies and maintaining equipment/facility records
• Assist in the preparation of research papers for publication
• Interact in a team-oriented manner
Receives a variety of ad hoc and routine trainings on an annual basis to insure the safe and proper functioning of the laboratory. Trainings must be complete within the time lines established by entities within the University of Florida or as specified by funding institutions.
Participates as assigned by the principal investigator and/or supervisor in laboratory and divisional meetings. Arrives at meetings on-time, is fully prepared to participate, and contributes information as necessary to fulfill meeting objectives.
Other duties as assignedExpected Salary:
