Job Description:

Security patrols and enforces policies in galleries, exhibitions, offices, shops, and classrooms at Powell Hall and the McGuire Center for Lepidoptera and Biodiversity. Responds to unusual, suspicious, or extraordinary conditions. Interacts with visitors to provide information about exhibits and facilities and negotiates problems such as safety concerns, missing child, lost possessions, medical emergencies, etc. Provides First Aid and/or CPR as needed. Works with law enforcement as needed. Investigates security violations. Prepares and files reports on all activities and incidents. Serves as a liaison with the university and law enforcement personnel. Greets and gives visitors the rules of the Butterfly Rainforest exhibit with excellent customer service skills.

Security ensures the safety of visitors and collections for events that require moving and rearranging furniture in public areas during museum hours.

Security provides employees, researchers, and contractors with access to secure areas as needed. Responsible for determining validity of individual requesting access. Responsible for daily monetary escorts and providing access to safe funds. Provides weekly monetary escorts offsite to bank and processes funds with fiscal assistant.

Security secures compound gates and building exterior doors each evening and opens them in the morning for visitors and staff. Responsible for opening and preparing the building each morning for visitors and staff, and subsequently closing and securing the building each evening.

Provides directions and explanations to visitors, and acts as an educational liaison to our visitors.

Performs other related work as required.

Must be able to professionally communicate policies and protocols with visitors and staff using discretion, sensitivity, and directness as needed.

Works with Facilities Services to troubleshoot and solve maintenance needs and troubleshoot and solve Lenel and Genetic software issues.

Communicates closely with campus police department (UPD) to report, investigate, and prevent criminal and unlawful activity.

Expected Salary:

10.00 per hour, 40 bi-weekly hours

Minimum Requirements:

Two-year AA degree (Bachelor’s preferred) in similar field.

Two years customer service experience.

First Aid/AED certification.

Must be able to remain standing or walking for up to 8 hours.

Must be capable of assisting small children and/or disabled persons in the event of a building evacuation.

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Valid driver license

Weekdays and weekends required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in similar field.

Two years experience in a similar role.
